There are so many little 'escapist' videos now.. whats going on?
I thought I might write a review about them.
1. Zero Punctutation.
He was fast, furious and funny, now.. it seems there's less speed, less grit, but more anal-yitical.. I still like his videos, and honestly I think most people are here because of him.
2. Extra Credits.
As a game designer myself, I really like this set of videos, always insightful, good topics, well done. I wish there was a website dedicated to just you guys and your topics.
3. Movie Bob.
I tend to agree with Movie bob, but even when he says a movie is crap, I find myself wanting to see it, to see if I agree.
4. The Big Picture.
I dont mind being lectured to. and I like to learn, so this is always interesting.. I'm very bored of the faces being used all the time.. what's up with that? they don't clearly strike me as fitting the mood of what's being said.
5. Critical Mass.
um.. what the? I'm not so sure I actually understand why comics are in this list.. I get the feel that its included because its someone's friend or one of the excapists themselves.. but the format for web comics is well defined and escapists format does not lend itself well for that. Honestly, segregate the comics and make a better interface.. one that click links each comic to the First/Previous/next/Latest. If its there, make it more obvious.. Most successful comics a) do not scroll the webpage b) click the image takes you to the next image.
6. Unskippable.
Ok I get the premise.. you've seen the opening movie/intro and have a few funny comments to make infront of your friends.. it works when you know your friends humour, I have tried to watch them, but they BORE me.. Unskippable is very skippable..
actually anything from here on down.. IS skippable.. I'll continue after a small interlude.
.. What happened to the stripper gaming group? yes, truth be told, its not SOooo fantastic, but as a Gamesmaster/Gamer of 20+ years, I like to watch the game, it cuts out alot of the fluff, had a good enough storyline, I like to see how other people game and has eye candy moments!!!.. If this is something that's interesting, heck, I live in Moscow, I'll find 6 Hot babes who speak in hot russian accents, and get them to game with me every weekend, film it and publish it.
7. Jimquisition.
Um, Yawn? this fat guy with low charisma, bad drawing skills, bad editing skills, bawls on and on about crap.. he's trying to be mafia/Yatzhee/Movie Bob all in one?
8. Miracle of Sound.
Ok, I like the song about minecraft.. fun.. the videos? hmm, well not so fantastic that I'd watch them twice, .. he's a talented songwriter/singer, but what happened to the chick who does songs too? maybe you should have a group link to music videos for games, rather than 1 link for 1 guy, 1ce a whenever.. yawn.
9. NameGame.
Webcomic, read critical mass above.
10. Load Ready Run.
The Opening music is cool.. of course.. the rest .. I've never seen one and not asked for my 5 minutes of life back.
11. Feed Dump.
Really? you get a video camera and sit in a closet and make poor jokes.. you have nothing left to do with your time?
12. No right Answer.
Great Idea.. poorly executed. but why is it ranked lower than the last 2???
13. Drinking Games.
Seriously.. you guys have nothing to do?
14. Tales of the Table.
Actually I'm kinda worried here.. What is wrong with gaming that no-one has as of yet, made a half decent, flash to imagination, roleplay movie/video. Why do fantasy movies usually fail, and why do half quality fantasy movie fail 10x more.. I watched the first 6 episodes hoping to see something, but its poor concept worsens the genre. Am I wrong? can someone point me to anything that does a half decent job? or do we need jim henson puppets and target kids to get the idea to market?
15... Well Podcasts and trailers are really just links to sections of the sites..
Honestly, 90% of the time, I never scroll down to see beyond what I'm looking at so possibly these niche content links are only for the people who like it.. but if I'm right in thinking that the links are positioned by their popularity, then I think that you guys at the design team should do something about your content, or something about the layout.
