The fallout 1 unique weapon .223 pistol

Hello everyone, I am a new member of this forum. I am happy to be here.

According to the game, it was once a sniper rifle that was changed by expert hands into a pistol. I want to do that.

What sniper rifle could be a good base for making this pistol? I will cut the back and the front myself.

I will be waiting for your suggestions.

It was a hunting rifle, to be specific.
I wouldn't do it, myself, even if I had the expertise.
If I were you, mister gunsmith, I'd start from scratch and make a new pistol.
Or modify a similar one into that form.

In general, .223 rifle as a pistol =/= a good idea.

Wait, you're really going to do this? Dude, I don't think this is a good idea. You could fuck up and ruin your rifle, or worse, fuck up and seriously injure/kill yourself.

Just take the stock off of a short barreled AR-15. You can find 10.5in barrels not too hard, handguards too. You could likely hold it up without much trouble.

I'm afraid that doing so would probably be inadvisable or ,at least, a waste of time.

The .223 is a rifle round, even if it is a small one. So the pistol would have a comparably large kick. Shortening the barrel would reduce accuracy and durability. Removing the stock would reduce the amount of control you have over the gun, and reduce accuracy in repeated firing. The modded rifle would also have to retain the cartridge, so the magazine would either be in front of the gun handle, or would simply not have one because you sawed the stock off of a bullpup.

Also, I'm not sure if you've yet been informed of this, but guns are very, very expensive.

All of that aside, I say go with an SU-16, and it'll look at least decent.

Can I just point out that the barrel of a rifle is designed to be held in an entirely different way to a pistol?

And that what you'd be creating is more like a sawn-off shotgun with bad weighting?

Although I'd say a Dragunov would be the best to do - theoretically.

Thank you all for your replies. I am trying to make a collectors item, I dont plan to shoot this gun. Aparently the AR-15 is an assault rifle. And the Dragunov is a sniper rifle, with that I can make my collectors item.

By the way I dont have any experience in doing this, but aparently is just something of cutting the barrel, it does not matther because in the video game the .223 pistol is for short range. And the stock I plan to cut it, gunsmithing cant be that hard.

In Fallout 1, it was a .223 hunting rifle sawn-off and modified until it resembled Deckard's pistol from Blade Runner.

I'm not actually sure if you'd get a result like in the game, but as long as you don't plan on firing the thing, I don't see the harm in trying.

That is possibly the dumbest idea I have ever heard. I am sorry but that sounds ridiculous. Most rifles that use the 5.56 round are quite expensive, and to destroy one to try to make a pistol is a colossal waste of money and incredibly dangerous. It wont be a collectors item either, no one will pay the money needed to return a profit for it because to gamers its over priced memorabilia and to firearm enthusiasts its a rifle somebody cut the barrel off of.

I'm sure that's been said by all of the great shooters of history moments before their deaths.

I wouldn't approach it like that, those things are made tough and tend to make any hasty mistakes stand out.
