I just had to read through the new forum rules, I haven't been here in a long time, since most of the content I came here for is now gone/available elsewhere.

Having had to read the wall of text that was the new rules, and type I AGREE at the bottom (it literally forces all caps), I felt like I was moving into a country run by a facist dictator.

Seriously, it read like "If you do what we don't like, you're gone." The best part is the Rule 0 bullshit. That works in a game, not in real life. That's why rules exist, so both sides, the monitors and monitored, have a common understanding of what's acceptable. The "Our opinion is a rule" is bs and just designed to silence people you don't agree with.

Honestly, I don't care that much, since, as I said, this is my first visit here in about 6 months. Just wanted to let you know the face you are showing.

If you don't care so much, why did you make a thread about it?

Yeeeaeaaahhh, this. Why go through the trouble of this thread at all? Most of us here are fully aware of the rules. Hell, I like the rules. It's what stops the forum becoming full of dickheads in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure he means it doesn't affect him much personally but he still cares enough about the forum to let people know how weird it is.

My experience with The Escapist moderation has often been that the most interesting and active posters get banned or suspended fast for accumulating lots of minor infractions.

But we already would know about the rules because we had to do the same; click the big I AGREE after seeing them

Eh, they had plenty of time to get a gist of the rules. No skin off my back fam :^)

This was discussed back when the CoC was updated [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/703.935682-New-Code-of-Conduct] last year.

And, my thoughts on Rule 0 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/703.935682.23556433] have not changed since. Though, we now have the Wild West subforum, where the Rules don't apply.

Its more like the 'don't be a dick' clause. I've been here for awhile, and while plenty of people get banned, its not really for having the wrong opinion. Like...Ezzkell009 wouldn't be banned for saying he likes blue shirts more than yellow shirts, or that he doesn't like Starcraft. It's more like he'd be banned for saying he thinks Jews aren't people and Hilter was right to kill them, and being serious. Or saying something like in his opinion Abaddon82 is a ****** cuck who should drink bleach.

That's the kind of shit we don't tolerate.

Hell some dude was banned only a few days ago for this incoherent tirade about how I'm an asshole, and other users were worse and we're all terrible people and the Escapist should have banned us all along time ago(without citing anything more than he didn't like us) and called the staff trash and blah blah blah. Just went off at everything. So yeah, he got banned.

But you're not going to get banned for simply posting an opinion, even if its controversial, and a mod disagrees with it.

Exactly. And if you don't find it acceptable, write them a complain and don't use the forums until you reach an understanding with them. Their website, their rules.

Yeahhh, this was discussed at length in the COC thread we had last year.
Somewhat comically, the thread was eventually closed by a moderator with the tone of "Enough. Stop complaining." , which I guess illustrated the rule quite nicely. (Expect the same thing to happen to this thread too, btw.)

Huh, and here I was thinking that this forum is too lightly moderated to allow for consistently good discussions.
