Hi there, Escapists.
I am sure that many of you have these ideas - ideas for great game of yours - just like me.
Try to describe them here. Be it a mix of existing games, expanding existing ones or a wholly new project.
One disclaimer: don't post ideas for plot (only setting, not too much detail too), try to explain mechanics and point of the game.
Also, it would be awesome for other readers if you make a title before the idea (as in: "MIX" "EXPANSION" "NEW")
I'll start:
Mix
I bet you know the Total War series and Europa Universalis series. Most bluntly: battles from Total War + diplomacy from EU + tech tree from Hearts of Iron 3. Good God, that would be godly.
And to spice things up, map and campaign mechanics from Civilization series. Imagine leading a batallion of tanks against chariots, haha
Expansion
Warband. You know the game? Put it in medieval Europe. Yes, whole Europe. Result: win.
New/Mix
This one I wanted since I remember. After playing UFO: Aftermath, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Bad Company 2 and Minecraft I've built an idea.
Alien invasion. Everything is destroyed, but a handful of souls survive. Aliens and Mutants everywhere. Hostile gangs and friendly groups. About it with setting.
The idea behind the game is the random generation (like in Minecraft). Game should be able to randomly generate a whole city, countryside, highways etc. Every building (even destroyed ones) can be entered and looted or used as shelter. You start in a randomly generated apartment of a building about to collapse. But, for it to collapse, something has to happen. For example Alien ship shooting it for giggles, car blowing up nearby... you get the idea. You have to take as much as you can carry and get the hell out of it.
Anyway, the main point of the game is, of course, to survive. You can build a shelter from things you gathered (for example if you find an axe, you can cut down tree, chop fences whatever). After you have the things you need nearby, game should be able to enter a 'construction mode', where you just swing the things like you want. Survival should be hard, there should be a variety of needs - just like real ones - you need to keep yourself warm, dry, you need to drink and eat, sleep. If you spend a whole day shooting, you need your arms to rest, if you walk all day searching for food, you have to sit down sometimes. Should also include Real Injury(TM). Just like Fallout - you can get shot in arm, leg, you can trip over and break your leg. You can fall and break your arm. - but that doesn't mean the game ends, you just need to limp back to your shelter and sleep it over - of course after using bandage, after making it not move and so on.
The idea is that you start as a normal guy. At the beggining of the game, you should be able to choose a few traits: job (for example a doctor, or a miner), physical prowess (higher means more strength, lower means more intelligence... not meaning it's true, only for the balance needs), four character traits that give bonuses and penalties, three abilities (over all you'd have 5, two given by job - doctor: would have first aid or something, you know the drill).
Survival of course isn't just shelter and food. To get the damn eating goodies, you will have whole randomly generated city to explore. Or countryside, should you choose so. But it ain't only hugs - there are mutants and aliens roaming everywhere. As well as humans. Every NPC, be it monster or human, should have a pattern to it. For example, mutant X goes only near something, call it F; mutant Y goes near G, mutant Z fears F. Aliens roam near recently destroyed buildings, libraries, power plants, occasionally try to capture more high-end mutants. The difficulty shouldn't be scaled (Oblivion/Skyrim) but rather based on real life (again). When you encounter an Alien with only a baseball bat, well, you're fucked, whether it's the first, or the 100th day of adventure. Should you have a bazooka, then well, good for you - again, be it 1st of 100th day.
Of course it should support standard alliances, enemies, quests (the more random the better), military and so on, and so forth.
Now guys, I am really curious about your ideas, so... go!
