what is a gamer? someone who plays video games? or is it something more? what are the limits of the «gamer» definition? to be a game do need recognize ourself as one?

well, often the gamers we're what we use to call geek: people playing tabletop RPGs, warhammer often not considering the apply of the video game as a standard of being a gamer. but like all things, definition changes, we change.
so what could be the new «standard» to be call a geek?

seem to me, a gamer, have to have more than just video games at is house and play them. but then again, i know other friends or just as not into video games and still calling themselves gamers.

but then again i don't know. what's your thoughts?
and if we can find what make the «gamer» can we say he have a distinct culture?

A gamer is someone who plays games and enjoys them. Casually, constantly, one game, one hundred. Different levels and types exist though.

A Gamer is one who plays Games, it's kinda in the name.
What type of game tends to be with many choices, but one must play a game of some sort.
A gamer plays games, simple as that.

A gamer is someone who considers video gaming a hobby, rather than something to do at parties. Next question please.

i think seriously it's more than just playing card, monopoly with your gram' at Christmas to be a gamer. i would think you must identified yourself to what a gamer is to be a gamer. that's also another question i can't answer what is the gamer culture? if we have any.

I remember hearing someone talk about there being Game Players, and Gamers. What determines which you are is the mount of time and energy you devote to gaming.

I'll answer this one. At the deeper level of gamers than those who just buy games and play them (for this I'll be referring to people like you and everyone here on the forums, those who go to the internet to learn about gaming and such)

Anyways, there's absolutely a culture. How many of these deeper level players don't know about "The Cake is a Lie", The Konami Code and AYBABTU? There's many different facets to culture, but there is absolutely a gaming culture. And this website is definitely a hub for a certain branch of it.

I play games. But not in some life defining way. If anyone were to call me a "gamer" I'd want to slap them. Gamer is a catch all term that includes ALL the fan boys. I will not be pigeon holed next to some cretin with a limited edition Master Chief pillowcase, or a box of PS3 tampons (exclusively available in Japan), or a pokemon slashfic writer or Sonic fan art artist.

Gamers don't have a culture because a culture is as much about who isn't in it as who is in it.

Gamer is just a demographic; an identify for a consumer. But by all means if anybody wants to take the word gamer and stick it on a pedestal to glorify it GO FOR IT CHAMP.

but certainly, you should know as «a deeper level player» the gamer culture is more then trends found on forums and on internet. it's about a language, ways of doing, symbolism and for most part, something that is not attributable to one person but to a population. thus to know a culture, there's not a lot of way to proceed, we can find info on the culture or ask what is a culture. and in the case of the gamer culture there is not a lot of info on what make your, my, culture. so the only way to proceed then is to ask to other what they think of their culture.
