Seeing as how a lot of todays new games are turning out as sequels of older games, i figured I'd like to hear everyones opinions of good sequels (sequels that needed to be made and were good games) bad ones (sequels that needed to be made but were terrible) and the ugly sequels (had no right or reason to be made but were made anyway!) and hey why not mention a game you'd like to see a sequel for...

My list goes as follows:
Good: Assassins Creed 2, the end of assassins creed 1 peaked interest in the sequel and AC2 fixed most of what was crap about AC1

Bad: Soul Reaver 2, SR 1 was great, very long, and took some brain power to get thru the puzzles, SR2 was terribly short, the 'puzzles' were not challenging, although the story was godlike

Ugly: Dead Space 2, Isaac had a reason to stay on the space station infested with those THINGS in DS1 and that was to save his gal, why the hell would he need to stay on this new station other than pure stupidity or no will to live?!

And I would love to see a Dead or Alive 5... and no not the bikini clad casual game on Zacks Island... im talking bwt a sequel to DoA4

Good sequel: Mass Effect 2, obviously it was needed seeing as the series was designed as a trilogy. The "traditional" RPG elements were dumbed down which was a shame but most other things made up for it.

Bad sequels: Mafia 2, it was frustratingly linear, clichéd, full of plot holes and the characters had no depth whatsoever; Vito and Joe are basically Italian American versions of Niko and Roman from GTA4. The police were completely and utterly retarded and you got a whole world with nothing to do in it as the game hated you exploring (You were always on missions, no breaks). The only redeeming point was that the combat was pretty well executed as were the sound elements.

Splinter Cell: Conviction, put simply, it was a game based upon the television series '24' played by characters from the Splinter Cell franchise. Good game, but a terrible sequel for the series.

Ugly Sequel: Bioshock 2. I liked it a lot, but it wasn't needed as Bioshock was very self contained.

A game that I'd like to see a sequel for would be System Shock 3.

As for Dead Space 2, it seems a little early to be claiming that Issac should "Just leave the Sprawl", as I am sure that he has every intention of trying, I imagine the Necromorphs are probably going to make that harder than he'd like. They aren't there when he arrives you know, or rather, they are not known to be.

Good; Had to be Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, only because it fixed almost every problem in ACII and made it wayyy better.

Bad; Fallout 3. It was horribly gritty, the voice acting and facial movement failed, and the whole thing was just way to cut and bad :/

Ugly; Fable II. Nothing worked, glitches, ect.

I wanna see The Darkness 2, possibly based more on the comics then anything. Also I wanna see Enslaved 2 and System Shock 3

About your Dead Space 2 thing, I gotta say I'm the complete opposite. Issac is awesome now that he actually talks, the necromorphs look creepier then before and the atmosphere looks better in my honest opinion.

Good sequel: Chrono Cross

By being incredibly dissimilar to the previous game, it struck out on it's own.

Comparing the two games is frivolous, as they share little more than a name.

It doesn't build on the old foundation. It makes a new one.

This is what all sequels should do. Be completely different.

Bad sequel: GTA: Chinatown Wars

We left top-down view with GTA for a reason. So that we can see what the fuck is ahead of us as we speed down the roads. And because aiming was horrid.

Ugly Sequel: Any "Ace Attorney" game after Phoenix Wright 3.

Totally awesome, but totally unnecessary.

Most wanted sequel: Chrono ________

Just fucking do it, Square. Just fucking do it.

The Good: Persona 4, polished everything that P3 had and added somethings that improved the gameplay greatly like shorter more varied dungeons and dungeon checkpoints

The Bad: Simon's Quest, a very ambitious sequel that fell short due to system limitations and vagueness.

The ugly: Wild Arms 4,it should not exist and I'm leaving it at that.

What doesn't exist? You can't go around making up games like that. And leaving blank spots in your post.

Good; Two Worlds 2 (The name confused me on Gamersgate when I was putting in the CD-Key): Apart from the horrid name I would dare say this game improves every aspect of it's predecessor. Still playing through it though so... We shall see if that holds up.

Bad; Master of Orion 3. I'm sure it was a great game stand-alone but when held up to Master of Orion 2 it just didn't feel right (Not to mention the other glorious problems).

Ugly; No right to be made? Well, the games I would have put in this category had already been said but my votes on Bioshock 2. That doesn't say it was a bad game though

Wanted sequel? Thief. Dear god, please give us a good Thief 4.

Good: Assassins Brotherhood just for the online, it is actually perfect getting a sneak kill and seeing the slick animation and having a get away with a little help from a chase breaker.
Bad:Are we only talking about new releases? cause if not I would choose Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops the recruit system needed lots of work and since it was on psp it looked bad really bad, although peacewalker basically improved it vastly.
Ugly:Little big planet 2 now don't get me wrong it looks good but it isn't needed as a sequel at all if anything they should release an update with all the new stuff on the store
Now want I really want to see is the Elder Scrolls Skyrim

Good: Just Cause 2. The first one was very dull despite it's size. Just Cause 2 made evertyhing better. Huge world, ridiculously mad storyline and god damn Ninjas.

Bad: LittleBigPlanet 2. It just seems irrelivant to bring out a sequel to a game where the main idea is to create your own levels. Perhaps it should have been a DLC update or a single install disc like Undead Nightmare.

Ugly: Full Auto 2. Somehow the game was laggier, more boring and they started tacking on a crappy story about an AI running the city. Why add a story to a game about racers blowing each other up with machine guns on their bonnets?

Good: KOTOR II. Yeah I know, unfinished but the story in the game is very interesting and they made some improvements to the gameplay. If only the ending wasn't so shite.

Bad: Fallout 3. Blegh.

Ugly: BioShock 2. This one is popular in this topic but I have to agree. Absolutely unnecessary, nothing more than a retread.

Well, I admit, I did hear about it but I'm a little skeptical even if they say they have a working example to be used soon-ish. It's been confirmed for 2+ years and "rumored" for 3+; to me that is when I start thinking it could go Episode 3 on us.

Good: Kingdom Hearts 2. Made the combat more varied, faster-paced, and generally more awesome.

Bad: Lego Racers 2. A different dev team made what was a decent racer but lacked the simplicity of the first game's build feature and sucked all the joy out of the gameplay.

Ugly: Anything with yearly updates. I may love Pro Evo and Football Manager but thoroughly unnecessary to pay £30 a year or more.

Good: Half-Life 2. It was a game begging for a sequel and it got one that was more than worthy.

Bad: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. The first game had a decent story and premise, but could use some tweaking in the gameplay department. The sequel improved nothing and ruined the things that were good.

Ugly: FFX-2. Do I really need to explain?

Personally, I'd like another Homeworld sequel. Homeworld was great, Homeworld 2 was only slightly less epic and I'd love to see some more.

I'm just hoping for a console release. Deadly Shadows was on Xbox, and I don't think the PC market alone would bring enough sales, either.

Good: Mass Effect 2
Bad: Modern Warfare 2
Ugly: Not something I'd like to think about...

And to those of you saying LittleBigPlanet 2 is an unnecessary sequel, play it first. There are obvious reasons it can't be DLC and truth be told, it outshines the first one in just about every department. The changes to the level designer take it places that are just insane as far as amount of creativity goes. You can do so much more in LittleBigPlanet 2, and it's well worth the time to learn how to utilize all the new tools.

Good: any game where the story doesn't involve the saving of the entire world, where gameplay is emphasized over story, where the original game had potential but was poorly executed, where there are lots of loose ends which could be expanded on in a sequel without ruining the mystery of the original, and where the sequel takes the game in a new direction rather than just making excuses to be a copy of the first game.

Bad: like good, but where the sequel isn't any good.

Ugly: any game where the entire world is at stake (and therefore there's nowhere for a sequel to progress to), where story is emphasized over gameplay, where the original is either well executed or simply had a bad premise, where everything is tied up nicely, and where the sequel just ends up being "what excuses can we think of to make the events of the first game happen again for no reason other than it's easier than making an original game?"
