The great list of recommended games

Okay, I came up with the (terribly unoriginal though non-findable using the search button(!!)) idea to create a list of what people generally consider to be recommended games. Unlike the usual "What's your top 10 on blah blah blah" I want to compile a list of games for the current generation consoles and PC/Macs that are worth getting. My goal would be that others (-meaning you, readers-) contribute with their thoughts and experience with other games so that others may use this to their benefit.

This thread is not meant for huge thread-derailing discussions/flaming(/Godwin's Law), so please keep it civilised. If many people think a game should be discarded from the list, it will happen. For a less known game to enter the list, at least 2 people should recommend it ( to avoid cluttering and extremely obscure titles ).

Just saying that you disagree isn't very helpful. Tell me which games in the list really shouldn't be there ( in other words, games that were really bad, and not just average ). Is it just Dead Space and Morrowind?

I'm also a bit surprised that you didn't just put The Orange Box in your pc list, or did you not like TF2 on your pc, just your consoles?

This is more like the FPS fan's great list of recommended games.

Look if we were to even go through all of the "classics" the list would be endless. Let's just leave it at the fact that there are a fuckload of good games out there. If you're really going to research what they are search the forums and find actual reasons why they are liked instead of just rattling off a list of them like some kind of recommending chaingun.
...and a PC list without Grim Fandango is shameful.

I'd recommend Bioshock as a rental, I regret buying it since it's one of those games that is GREAT the first time you play it, but you pretty quickly tire of it. I was bored of the game before I even finished my first playthrough, and haven't touched it since finishing it.

I'll agree that Dead Space sucked.

I'll add a recommendation for Pokemon Platinum for DS. It's certainly not for everyone, but if you enjoy an amazingly deep and complicated turn-based RPG, Pokemon is for you.

I don't own every platform and I don't know every game, so I wasn't able to make it perfect from the start. Thanks for the advice.
