So about 5-10 minutes ago i got a phone call from "Microsoft Tech Support" witch i found really interesting ( thinking why would the need to phone me). Now here is where it got interesting the person kept on telling me that there is something wrong with my computer but wouldn't tell me witch one so i thought that i would amuse my self to see where this is going. It got really interesting when the man would not tell me what the problem is and kept on telling me to open stuff. long story short i phoned Microsoft just to be safe and reported the scam.

So guys(and mythical creature they call "woman") what scams have you been presented with or have you been in one yourself ?

Im currently being mistaken by several loan compaines for a "Simon" who is applicable for several loans up to £500 or more.
Needless to say my actual name neither sounds like, nor resembles Simon in any way.
they call me and sometimes text, i dont want to respond to the texts however as they each come from a different number and i dont want to be marked as active by a spambot.

Summer job was to sell some older stock from my dad's office through Craig's List. One item, a multi thousand dollar business printer. I get an email fairly quickly. They say they are very interested in purchasing this for THEIR WIFE but they are out of the country, so he wants to have someone pick it up and pay through pay pal.

F'ING Funny that was.

Ya this is a current major scam going around. And it appears to be world wide. The tech support person apparently asks people to visit a website they have constructed that allows them remote access to your computer. Once they have access they display a bunch of bogus info to you saying your computer is infected with all manner of virii. And they are the only ones who can remove it ... for a mere $600.

69.25.20.35 and 74.201.74.45 are two IP addresses their servers use. Although with the forcefulness of the campaign its likely they'll have more soon.

I get texts saying "you still haven't claimed for the accident you had"

What accident?

Sometimes, the coincidence required for some of these things to even begin to work is beyond belief.

I got that 'Microsoft' one as well...

I played stupid for 20 minutes before telling them I didn't know how to turn my internet on.
Was so happy when they started to get annoyed at me.
They were contently asking me, "Are you sure you are the main user in your house?"

Trolling the scammers is fun ^_^

Hmm... I was never scammed... unless you count that guy on Allegro (kinda like polish Ebay) who wanted to sell me a Game Boy Advance for 70 PLN (around $20-$25), but demanded the money to be sent to him in a letter... actually, how dumb would you have to be to fall for that?
[sub]Also, I know it's kinda off-topic, since this didn't happened to me and stuff, but one can's say 'scam' without saying 'P-P-P-Powerbook' [http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/].[/sub]

My mother was tricked by some professional thugs. You see, when you live in a fucking Warzone that is Mexico city, scammers get better, and they are good, so to make a long story short they tricked her and took her computer and iPhone, Found them using iCal, fuckers have 5-10 years of prison, not that it matters in this country.

Yeah, I've gotten that same "Microsoft Tech Support" one three times now. They don't seem to like it when you ask them to provide a number you can call them back on.

I had one to, but mine was just a hotlinked .gif image.

Other than that, the Cardholders scam seems to be making rounds again.

I got a text message from General Mills Credit Coop saying there was an issue with my credit card. I dialed the phone number, and it was just an automated voice service telling me to input my card number.

If yer gonna try to fuck me, the least you could do is buy me dinner.

My 62 year old mother trolled that Microsoft help desk scam, they must have thought they were onto easy money with her. She isn't particularly good with tech but even she knew MS isn't ever going to help you without you hassling them to do it. She kept them on the line for 40 minutes "talking her through the process" before hanging up with "At least you couldn't scam anyone else while you were trying to cheat me". We are all very proud.

I've had many people try to scam me. Over the phone, online, even in person. In each and every case I trolled the person for over a half an hour.

I know it didn't account for much, but knowing I kept them busy for that long and bugged the living hell out of them during that time usually made my day. :)
