Apparently that’s what is predicted at least -

Our work party’s already been canceled. Let’s see what happens and report as this possibly/probably overhyped event unfolds.

Definitely overhyped. A blizzard isn't 2-4 inches of snow, which is what Chicago-land (where I'm at) is supposed to get cited by that article. Every bit of snow nowadays is either a snow storm or blizzard by the weather officials, it's like impossible just to merely snow now. It can snow and not be a storm... you know like when it merely rains.

I was going to revive my Texas thread for when our power inevitably goes out again, but not even a week ago when the weather forecasts were predicting this storm, ERCOT put out a message saying we should expect a mild winter and everything will probably be fine.

Meanwhile, I'm sure Ted Cruz is shopping for plane tickets.

St Louis reporting in. We're getting ready for a nice little ice storm and some -30 wind starting tonight. City is pretty much going into lockdown. I braved going to the store today for some last minute supplies. There were 8 of us, armed and armored, spelunking equipment and enough provisions to survive a fortnight battle royale. We got ambushed by a squadron of old ladies in the soup aisle. Only two of us made it out, and with only a few chunky chicken and noodles.
On a lighter note, the gas stove in my house went out, the tanks are empty and the gas company can't make it out until January. So until then I'll have to cook with only my microwave, crock pot, rice cooker, oven and grill.

Don't laugh to hard... With the wet year we've had there's a fuckton more plant growth... which, given a month or two of dry, hot conditions is gonna make for a bastard huge fuel load for bushfires.
This is true. Mind you this December has been very irregular in its weather. Some days it’s as I’d expect with it being hot and dry, and then I get a few days of rain. Of course January could turn everything on its head again and dry the place out to severe danger levels.

I suppose we shall see.

The weather this year has just been a pain in the arse. Normal years are supposed to have 4 seasons not just summer and 8 months of winter.

The weather forecast for Britain always amuses me. We have just had a cold couple of weeks and ever article I saw were "UK to be blanketed in 10 inches of snow". I'd click on the link and it turns out that its all in Scotland. Why can't they just say Scotland? Its really annoying. I like snow.

Where I am got a sprinkle of snow that lasted for about half a day.

The assumption any year since 2001 will be 'normal' is your main failing. Make peace with that, and most deviations from polite normal reality will be less irksome.

We had snow for a few days on and off in the NE but it only settled for two or three days. I'd agree that usually the UK media is weather mad, but this time it is a bit different because it's gotten so expensive to heat homes that the cold snap we just had would've been really bad for some people. I know we're getting £66 quid a month from the government for the power bills, but if I ran my heating to heat my house to normal levels during the snap we just had, I'd probably be hitting £15 a day (it's badly insulated and there's not much I can do about it that's going to cost less than £3000+). I'm lucky in as much as I have a wood stove and I spent a lot of last year cutting up trees that had fallen in Arwen.

I assume those temps are Fahrenheit, cuz Muricah, and kinda thought the negatives are like the positive temps where 70°F is really only a mild 20°C or something.

-Looked up-

Nope, them temps arctic af
Yeah, my understanding is this is wind chill. Right now here in Minnesota, it's -6 F but 15mph winds (and that's going to get worse by Friday). So it's not like it's -50 outside but that Artic Blast wind ish is going to make it feel brutally cold out there.

It is going to be unusually cold here for Christmas, but we're talking more like "this feels like January" than "this feels like The Day After Tomorrow".
