Mine would have to be Cowboy Bebop at this time. Ive never seen such a well constructed universe with so many genres and diverse subjects. The characters are amazing (especially Ed :3) and the music just tops it off as the cherry on this sundae of AWESOME.

(There probably is a similar thread to this but I couldn't find it. So don't give me flak for making a new one please.)

Pokemon, because Pokemon cannot be beaten. In any way ever.
I don't watch anime much...

CANNOT DECIDE.
It's impossible.

Besides, Cowboy Bebop always seems to be the one brought up by people who don't like anime.

Bastard!(for sheer awesomesauce)
It is awesome because it sums up just about EVERY shounen-style anime in about 5 episodes, without repressing itself sexually like JUST about every other shounen-style anime out there, without actually becoming sick or inadvertently grabbing the tag Pr0n.

WHAAAAAAAAAA?

I LOVE anime. Ever since I was little Ive enjoyed its quirkiness. I just think Cowboy Bebop tops it as one of the more clever and mature ones. Rather than the ones that seem to focus on this perverse kind of humour. To each his own.

The Melencholy Of Haruhi Suzamiya is pretty awesome! Ghost in a shell also, but everyone knows of that one...

Ive heard a lot about "Bleach" and been told its great.

Impossible to say, depends on what kind of greatness you want, really.

Do you want the greatness in sheer emotional power of Grave of the Fireflies, the incredibly nuanced character interaction and portrayals in Spice & Wolf, the noir suspense of the redemptive odyssey in Monster, or the creative approach to visual style and faithful reinterpretation of a literary classic in Gankutsuou?

I doubt my own personal favourite could objectively really be termed "great", but I like it anyway.

Ninja. I was going to say Haruhi.

Cowboy Bebop takes the gold easily, but The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya gets second.

Serial Experiments Lain is third.

EDIT: I forgot K-ON!/!. It may be moe blob, but sometimes I am in just the mood for that.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's simply brilliant. From the detailed cyberpunk universe and all the meaty philosophy that comes with it, to the awesome action and score by Yoko Konno.

Runner up places go to FLCL for being necessary viewing for anyone between the ages of twelve and twenty one, and Elfen Lied for making me cry like a small child.
Along of course with Dean Note, Melancholy of Haruhi, FMA, Cowboy Bebop, Mai HiME, Shakugun no Shana... And so on, and so forth.

Well, all good mentions, but [sub](sorry for tiring those people who have read my posts before, or even recognise my avatar)[/sub] the golden cookie goes to Claymore.

This.

Also, Cowboy Bebop, it's amazing, that's why.
