Fight Club. It's a way of life, a book, and a movie.
I've been meaning to see that. I hear about it all the time.
You definitely should, it's really good and will probably change the way you think about life. Back OT, I would have to say the best films I've seen are The Silence of the Lambs as well as Fight Club.

EDIT: Actually, what I meant to say is that there is no single best film, but some of my favorites are: Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, The Silence of the Lambs, Fight Club, Big Fish, Saving Private Ryan, The Godfather, I could go on and on...

For me, bit of a toss-up between two that have actually already been mentioned: Fight Club and Silence of the Lambs. I love them both, and I don't feel like choosing.

Citizen Kane!

Actually it's a toss up between HEAT, The Empire Strikes Back and The Lord of the Rings trilogy for me.

HEAT is the ultimate heist movie, even down the badass gunfight which seems to get half of LA filled with holes. It's also beautifully shot.

Empire is a great Sci-fi film and manages to avoid the cheesyness that creeps into the other two as well as the sheer stupidity of the prequels. It's effects are better than the prequels too, mainly because of the lack of stupid ropey green screen that makes entire sets look fake.

Plus "No, I am you father," is the best dramatic twist ever.

Lord of The Rings because I don't think there's ever going to be a better adaptation of such a long and involving story, the extended edition is brilliant. It's also got the best balance of cgi effect in pretty much any film I've seen, it avoids the trap of making everything CG.

You can't ask what the greatest film of all time is, only what everybody's favorite film of all time is, and for me, the answer is Casablanca.

Saving Private Ryan. It just has everything, except female actresses.

Honorable mention also going to the Original Starwars movies.
