So I just heard from my parents that someone was mugged across the street; thankfully the
guys didn't have any knives, so it wouldn't have been fatal if the victim refused to part
with their valuables.

So, know, because of that, I feel cynical and pessimistic, as I am pissed off that such a thing can happen in the middle of the day in a residential street that is joined up to the high street.
On Sunday. At 1:00 PM.

So, fellow escapists, I invite you to share your opinions for as to why you have
-Lost faith in humanity
-Become cynical/pessimistic
-Or just hate the way the world functions

Captcha; "change yourself"

Or, alternatively, if you aren't feeling crappy, state what makes you happy at the point of
writing!

Do we have to?

We just got out of the 'lost faith in humanity' phase.

*sigh*

Fiiiiiiiiiine.

Over the past few years I've noticed something about mainstream music.

It's all shit.

I don't say this from a perspective of music snobbery of hipsterdom. It's just not good music, it doesn't have that 'so bad it's good' charm of the 90's and 80's, it's just shallow, awful music. Sure there's a great track every now and then, but most of it is just so damn formulaic, even for pop music.

OT: I am all angry and antsy because my life is devoid of Spock. Everyone know that humanity is doomed until the warp speed engine is built, resulting in first contact with the Vulcans and I can have sexy sexy fun time once every seven years (hey beats my current average.

not OT: Oh my god, that new dyson vacuum..it is amazing...I did a demo test in an electronics store, and wow. If I had the cash, and indeed carpets, I would by one and cover it in rainbows.

OT: Humanity must be pretty sad if people like me get exited over vacuums.

Simple phrasing can help.
For example,
"Do you know what I hate? Wearing pants."
as opposed to,
"Do you know what's great? Not wearing pants."
I'm using the pants example because both statements are absolute truths.

It's the whole, 'glass half empty/half full' attitude.

You know what's great? The new Dyson.

It sucks so much.

Are you just going to keep going until someone responds to the sucking joke? :D

Edit: Back on topic, I don't tend to lose my faith in humanity. I think, overall, we're a pretty cool bunch.

Yesterday I was sitting in a pub with a pint of Guinness while playing Fruit Ninja on my phone.

Life's pretty damn good if you ask me :D

I'm not one to claim to lose faith in humanity. However, I am prone to say that humanity tends to be lacking in certain areas.

For example, cheating.

Just came from another thread about it. This site alone tells me that people suck. PEOPLE SUCK HARD. Ass and monkey balls.

And I sorta wish I had powers or some really improbable skills to make their lives hell. Oh so much hell. Don't care how. Just hell. Because, fucking God, it's everywhere.

Occasionally, murder gets to me. You read a book about it and think that this type of shit goes on for real. And it brings you way down...

That's about it for today.

There's so much wisdom there... Both in the statement about pants and the manner in which the message is conveyed.

I love to like stuff, and I don't mean Facebook.

The title makes me pessimistic about humanity already. It's "be", not "pe".

Yes, I'm only bringing up such a trivial thing because the thread told me to.

Make it a bad-news-good-news thread. I'll start:

The bad news:

I hate it when people dismiss me in theological discussions because I'm an atheist. I actually believe that there's a reason people are still religious, and that it's quite likely a person has thought about the same issues I have pre-atheism and come up with an explanation that justifies it. In short, I believe that it's perfectly reasonable to be a Christian, and my questions/concerns are immediately thrown out because they assume I think "HURR DURR ALL THEISTS ARE STUPID." If ya can't have rational discourse, what CAN ya have?

Also, NBC News (I think it was NBC News...) said Neil *Young* died in yesterday's headline. *facepalm*.

The good news:

I frequent an image site called imgur. One picture was a photoshopped... well, photo, that someone who claimed to have sold their camera for college had posted. The top comment on this picture was someone saying, "Send me your address. People like you deserve to have a camera. I will send you money."

Yay, humanity!

Dammit I came here to be angry at people! *sigh* fine.

I've seen people selflessly help others, donate to causes, pay for a stranger in front of them who was a little short on cash, fight through fears to donate blood and save lives, pull over to make sure the guy next to his car on the road is okay, stick up for someone they don't even know who's being pushed around, sit down with someone who is "different" in some way and have a good conversation, and even stop and let someone go who is trying to make a turn (amazing, right?). I have two jobs that give me some extra spending money, a future in law enforcement, a place to live, a good computer and internet, great friends, an amazing woman that I love, an education, been a Marine, and cable t.v. I'm pretty good with my lot in life.

Isn't the escapist misanthropic enough as it is? No? Okay.

Humans are rapidly destroying themselves and will be lucky to make it to the end of the century. There you go.

A slight oversight, as I misspell often with a keyboard

I had just typed something happy and optimistic when I went to get the door and I find my girlfrind with her arm in a cast because today she was hit by some arsehole who was drunk driving. If he had hit her a centimeter to the left she would be dead.

This guy was drunk and then desided to get behind the wheel of a car. A bit hard to find life all sunshine and rainbows right now when there are people like him in the world.

I am also pissed off that she did not call me because she did not want to worry me. And I was in such a good mood. Thanks for leting me vent.

We could easily just tune into the news for 8 hours and you'll likely come away thinking the world will end soon and we as a people have no hope. I try not to be too pessimistic about humanity as I believe we have so much untapped potential for greatness, Neil Armstrong comes to mind as an example of the great things humanity can achieve.

Saying this, the fact we have a thread dedicated to saying how rubbish everyone else is bums me out.
