This started out as a coffee thread, but I got bored with that idea...

What makes a good thread good? Not just popular I mean. What makes you remember threads fondly? What kinds of threads do you personally like? So I can steal all the ideas and become super popular!

Obviously a lot of people seem to be fans of the arguing crazy heated threads, but I've always tended to like the personal or the crazy threads more. Like eternal nothingness' threads (aggravating as his logic could be) or the photo threads.

Conversely what threads don't you like? I tend to dislike music threads because I don't really feel like a lot of people even read the other posts. They just go to post their own songs then leave.

TL;DR How much coffee do you drink in a day What kinds of threads do you tend to post in?

Well...getting a good title is important for the thread. Should know what the thread is about going in...also, no backhanded insults in the title, and no doing that thing where the real purpose of the thread isn't about the nominal content.

And, if you are asking about something that works differently in different areas, specify which area you mean.

Threads that interest me.

Okay, for a slightly less lazy answer, I tend to like either morality/POV/dilemma threads or just plain silly ones. I don't tend to be interested in discussing video games so I rarely post in Gaming Discussion, unless it's a Pokemon thread. I don't mind rants or obvious POV-pushing threads if there's something interesting to talk about, especially if I can disagree with the OP :p

I love the ones where people talk about themselves or their lives.

I think it makes everyone here a bit more personable and relatable. They usually contain less drama than some other genres of threads.

I'm also incredibly nosey. XD

Anything where people discuss the best of pop culture in ridiculously over-analytical terms. Also a good hypothetical "x versus y" thread, where people discuss things like who would win in between something like the Galactic Empire and the Reapers (Empire no contest FYI).

If you're that interested, you could always ask. This is probably the third time I'll have made this joke in as many days, but I only bite as hard as you want me to. ;D

OT: I like threads I feel I can contribute to? I don't really know how to be more specific than that, it just depends on how much I know about the topics being discussed and how much I feel it would be worth for me to spend the time posting in said thread. So, like, I don't visit R&P because I really don't follow religion or politics in any way. I also try to not get involved in Sarkeesian threads because I haven't and don't plan on watching any of her videos. That one doesn't always work out so well, but also goes to show why I'm pretty conflicted about my own answer here.

There are a great many things I'm willing to debate or discuss, or at the very least read through. I guess the most likely way to get me to enter a thread is to just have a catching title.

The photo threads.

So everyone can fish for compliments AND feel self conscious together at the same time. It also helps to remind me I am indeed conversing with human people and not just text accompanied by a goofy profile picture. It's funny how easy that is to forget.

Also, any thread that discusses Berserk, but that goes without saying.

I can't just ask one person, I need information from the masses!

Besides, it's weird if I just ask one person. XD

Weirder than cataloging the answers of tens or potentially a few hundred people?

I'm not so sure...

Well I never meta thread I didn't like!

Sorry, couldn't help myself...

Actually, I'm not sorry. I made a pun. Deal. {grin}

*ahem* Got a little off track there, but to answer your question(s), I tend to be attracted (much as JoJo said) to threads that are about subjects that interest me. I also like threads that seem like they will be fun/funny or have a lot of good interaction.

I tend to remember threads fondly if I had good interaction with other posters.. even if we didn't agree or end up agreeing about something as long as people were polite, expressed themselves well and made good points.

I feel a certain amount of guilt if a thread falls under one of my professed areas of expertise (such as ancient comics or ancient anime) and I don't attempt to answer questions people have about the subject. I like threads that make me think.

I really like threads that introduce me to something new and I find that I love it (yes, it is due to a thread here that I was introduced to MLP:FIM).

Oh, sorry, I misspoke.

I mean, other people will know how weird I am.

Simple. they need to include Meta Knight.

HAHAHAHAHA. I have hilarious.

OT:

I like threads involving music. I haven't posted here much, but I've been brought to the escapist by the music of gavin dunne (miracle of sound).

Irrational and overblown first-world problem threads, but anything overly but unnecessarily serious will do the job.

Edit: Also, Hakkarin's booze threads. Genuinely. I like the off-the-wall nature of the whole business.
You must be having a field day these past few months, then. :D

I think it's a little late for that, wouldn't you agree?

I mean, you're posting on a website called "The Escapist", after all.

I've never understood why people find puns so terrible.

How ancient are we talking?

"Bif! Bam! Bonk!" or Frank Miller's Happy-Go-Lucky Grit Hour?

Since nobody else has mentioned it yet, I like the ones that people make when they're drunk as a weasel. I also like threads about coffee, java-wava and bean brew.

Threads started by people with ten billion posts. It might be my imagination, but those always seem to draw in the other people with six trillion posts, and then it all snowballs from there as we lesser peasants join in, if at all.

I'm just being silly, of course.

Hard to say what threads grab my attention. Ones in which I feel like I have something relevant to say. I guess topics that don't require a terrible lot of articulation to post about?

Shockingly, I like threads that deal with my own interests.

Ok ok. I'm hesitant to admit it, but I like "list" threads somewhat. Sharing my own and seeing how it lines up with what others list.
The light-sided, half-joking threads are also nice. You can respond and take part in it without being "attacked".
I know it's not really an attack, but I'm not good dealing with confrontation. I tend to back off or downplay it.
Unless I'm 100% I'm right. Which is seldom. I even doubt my own doubts.

That's why I tend to steer clear of political/SERIOUS threads.
Not that I don't read, I love seeing others views on things.
I just don't participate.

I enjoy threads with memorable derails, tons of content I can bookmark to read up at my leisure later, cool tips and tricks about creative processes and any thread made by Kross featuring buttons or horrors from the great beyond.

These are the threads I occasionally poke through when the forum slows down or is full of posts about something I've stopped reading up on. Also Forum Game memories, so many Forum Game memories... :D
