Just a random topic about what you find scary in an antagonist or group of antagonists for example the fissure beast, zombie esque things from Alone In The Dark who I personally liked because their movement was rather disconcerting if a tad retarded, they had very recognisable human features while being entirely in-human in nature and tended to work rather well in groups to surround you which added to the setting of central park [ albeit a very fucked central park ] gave me the distinct feeling of being closed in on by a bunch of extremely angry youths all of whom wanted to beat me to death and could take eight billion shots to the face before falling over... for a bit. One of the other things I liked about the Humanz [ In fact I liked it so much it enabled me to forgive them for having possibly the most un-intuitive boring , awful!! names ever ] was that you had to be moderately inventive to kill them, you had to set them on fire which in theory might be difficult well apart from the fact that the residents of central park apparently throw away bottles full of alcohol and a dubious amount of tissues bludgeoning any kind of fight sequence into yet another reason to set everything on fire but at least it made a nice change from just shooting until all the enemies fall down and occasionally made scary scenario's like the afore mentioned gang assault scenario only I opened my jacket to find my flashlight, an empty gun, a glowstick and a bit of string and I found that genuinely scary.
I'm sure there are better examples of inventive , well designed or just pant wettingly scary enemies from a game, movie or story so I?d love to hear what you would choose as your favourite and why.

I like the idea of Silent hill in that the main enemy is the town itself but havn't actually bought or played any of the games , i did watch the film but but iv'e heard that it wasn't a particularly good representation of the games so meh. Some of the enemy's in Bioshock where also good although moslty a bit mainstream with a few quirks- splicers genetically enhanced [ well mostly fucked by the looks of things but kinda enhanced ] people , creepy little girl charecters that are in freaking everything however these creepy girls are secretly cute and cuddly as long as you don't rip out their liver's. The big daddy's however were a good concept if a bit well easy.. :/ maybe i didn't play the game enough
And @ kukul i have no idea what you are on about :D
I don't know if you care what i think but hey there you go :p

The four Feind Riders from the new Megaten game. They usually only attack one at a time, and even then they're crazy hard to beat, but if you have bad luck, they all attack at the same time. You might as well restart after that happens.

At one point while playing Fallout 3, I fast traveled at night.
When I arrived at my destination, I heard a footsteps behind me.
I turned around to find myself face to face with a Deathclaw, who was in mid swing at my face o.o

I almost pissed myself.

So yeah. Deathclaws.

When I was 4 when the original Jurassic park came out, the Raptors scared the poop out of me, and were the only monster to this day that ever has.

If anyone has ever played RE4, Regenerators are probably the scariest thing ever. When you enter a room, you hear this raspy, uneven breathing, and it is coming from a monster you can't even kill the first and second times you see it. They also limp kinda weird, and they have this crazy stare you always see when you look in their eyes.
Scary as hell

O'Brien. From 1984. Technically it's a book and a movie, but he's still frakking terrifying.
Oh... O'Brien was the only charecter in 1984 that I liked.

Seconded. And these come in at a point when you're assuming that you'll be playing an action game only for a while. Try shooting off its legs. Just try it...

Fallout 3's Yao Guai are always terrifying when you're least expecting them. My sound system makes it sound like it's RIGHT THERE BEHIND YOU! AHH!

I agree, and they actually they are killable at that time, it just takes ALOT of firepower, or if you use the knife, ALOT of cojones.

Also centuars from fallout 3, but only when I turn around, and they right up in my face.

I would say the Tall Man from Yahtzee's sublime game "Trilby's Notes."

If you want to know why, play it.
