I'd have to say this scene from Fatal Frame 4:

The girls in the video didn't react nearly as shocked as when I played through FF4. When I pulled out my camera in that room and pointed it towards the mannequin, I literally threw my controller at the ground and ran into the bathroom. The video doesn't show it, but its head will follow you around the room as long as you stay in Viewfinder mode. I'm not scared easily, but that Mannequins face gives me nightmares. So, what is the absolute scariest scene in gaming?

Hm Fatal Frame never really did it for me. It's hard to be scared when you're "shooting" the enemy and score numbers are bouncing around the screen.

As for other scary moments...

- The shop dummies in Condemned: Criminal Origins
- The plaster-covered spider splicers in Bioshock.
- Several scenes in Amnesia. The storage cellar, the cells and and the choir all come to mind.

For me, it's the entirety Tower of Latria in Demon's Souls. Nightime, cloudy with a green glow in the sky, narrow corridors walkways, Cthullu wizards, man-faced bugs, fake and real gargoyles with glowing red eyes that swoop down on you, the creepiest boss music... that one level is scarier than most of the "horror" games of today.

Yep, that entire department store chapter had my asshole puckered.

And while playing Condemned 2, the first scene where the exploding baby dolls are introduced, I was playing on a surround sound system in complete darkness; the bass from the explosion caused my living room window to rattle loose and smash on the floor. I literally screamed and jumped over my couch in terror. When I was finally convinced I wasn't about to die, I turned on all the lights, chained smoke about four cigarettes and switched to Tetris.

That's one of the scenes that creeps me out from that game

Can't find the video of another freaky moment that scared the piss out of me from the game, but if I do I will post it...

Edit: Ah found it, but the sound isn't the greatest.

That moment when you read the news that EA or Activision has bought your favourite developing team.

The cutscene from "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" where the backstory of Hyrule is explained. You know the one. Shudder...

Win!

OT: that one level in Thief 3. If you've played it, you know it.

The haunted hotel in Bloodlines.

Also, the Griffith Park level in Bloodlines

While the haunted hotel comes in the beginning of the game and plays for more psychological horror, there was always something in Griffith Park that was equally horrifying for different reasons. In the haunted hotel, you are still a new vampire that is learning about the other things in the nights nad the ghosts are something completely new. Also, seriously creepy. Oh my God, the laundry room! The emphasis on that level is atmosphere and it does it good. You are an immortal predator but there are things even you cannot reach.

Griffith park explores similar themes in a different way. You are now one of the mot powerful immortal bloodsuckers in the city. You have fought all sorts of ugly deadly things and won. You have enough firepower and weapons to equip a small mob and go on a violent spree in LA. Also, you've perfected at least one, possibly two of your three supernatural powers. Very little can stand in your way. And then you meet one of the other badass vampires in the city who is absolutely terrified of the werewolves in the park. And of course the werewolves attack. The only thing you, as an immortal immensely powerful bloodsucking predator, can do is run like a little girl. Screaming like one is recommended. And you have to do it for a certain amount of time. I still remember hiding in the toilets thinking the werewolf couldn't possibly fit through the door (he is 9ft tall) and I was right - the damn thing just went through the wall surrounding the door.

Silent Hill 2, in the apartment when James finds the flashlight. It rests on a mannequin and when you take it the manequin will attack you. Since I played it on PC and didn't have a controller to throw away, I threw my mouse as far as its cable let it. Holy shit.

Another moment is in the Blair Witch Project Volume 1: Rustin Parr. You are asking a little boy about his recently deceased friend, a little girl (or is it the other way around?), and are recording the conversation. Then, as a puzzle you have to tweak around with your gadgets to alter the recorded conversation, and oh God, nothing has ever been so creepy in a game. It's not like a jump scare or not even anything like that. It's not even a scare. It's just there, getting under your skin and making you start to gently shake. It's perfect.

What about when you turn around to mean old Dr. Splicer in BioShock? That scared the shit out of me. Amnesia scared me at times, too, and I'm sure Condemned is scary.

The freaking Choir in Amnesia.

You know, the big open space with a Brute in it, surrounded by rooms filled with implements of torture, dead plants and a BLOOD RED MIST? And the soundtrack that sounded like it was autocannibalising?

Agh.

The mannequin room in Silent Hill 3. it took me about 10 minutes just to work up the nerve to walk into the room.

The scariest moment FOR ME in gaming would definitely have to be the first time I did Ravenholme in HL2. 3 AM, Completely dark house, headphones cranked up to ridiculously high, god that scared the living hell outta me.

In general? I dunno. I mean, I don't play horror games (unless for whatever the hell reason you count Amnesia as a horror game >.>).

There was only one dude in there, but it *felt* like there were way more. Because you couldn't see shit. Through the blood mist.

Still, that's not the scariest. *Walking down windowed corridor* *Keeps walking* *DOGS SMASH THROUGH WINDOWS* Ah, Resident Evil. You also got me in 2 with the interrogation room Licker.

I pulled an all nighter playing Condemned. That orchard house man....
I still had a ridiculously fun time playing it, escpecially at night in the dark, and escpecially all in one go.
Then there's the Silent Hill 2 scene with Eddie, that was just kinda fucked up.

There really aren't a lot of horror games and we should fix that.
