A pretty tense one for me was the first time I went through the Ocean House Hotel ( I think thats what its called, anyway) on Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. That was creepy as fuck.

Choice A, The moment in Resident Evil 4 when you have to swim back to your boat, while being chased by Del Lago.

Halo 3 on Matchmaking. Call me what you will, but I find it rather tense to hold my own with people who are much better at the game than me.

Sector Z in Star Fox 64 where you have to destroy the missles coming towards the great fox,
really sucks since the guy before hand dumbed down your lasers to single firing.

Well I'm sure I speak for a few people here when I say that memories of tense moments in games from way in the past are looked on more favourably.

Well for me I was sweating and really getting tense in many of the final Final Fantasy prolonged boss battles - when I was a wee lad that is.

Being chased by the Runner-Cops in Mirror's Edge. That game was really scary!

--Xvito, keeping it excellent.

When playing Splinter Cell (yes, I am a S.C. fanboy - well to an extent). There are a lot of tense moments when you're hiding in a shadow and a guard walks inches past you, stops, looks around and finally walks on. It's those sots of moments that make me really tense. And is also the reason that I play stealth games/characters whenever possible.

Well, I dunnot about Mirror's Edge being scary, but indeed, being chased by the Runner Cops was a tense moment, being the only real occasion when there's somebody on your tail that can actually keep pace with you.

The one bit in Mass Effect where you're racing towards the conduit on Ilos in the Mako...I found that rather tense. Not sure if it was actually possible to not make it (unless you actually stopped driving) but it still put me on edge. As does anything where you are dealing with a tight time limit....

Streets of rage 2. Being down to my last couple of inches on my health bar while the end of level boss is in the same state, knowing the next punch is decisive, realising that one mistake will mean doom as I try to judge when to launch my final attack (and I know it will be my last attack...)

This isn't so true in normal and easy where you usually have some leeway, but in Hard and Hardest, every life counts!

One that stands out is in (yes, it is crap but it was also kinda fun) Enter the Matrix, when all the Smiths appear. If you pause and look at your objectives, all it says is 'RUN!'

When I was a kid. Going through that cave full of Digletts. One time, I wasn't really paying attention. The screen flashed to say I'd run into a wild battle, I glanced over, and nearly had heart failure when I saw a Dugtrio. I wasn't expecting it and had never encountered one before. I felt on edge every single time I went through that cave after that moment.
