The latest Mummy reboo...rema...rewhatever starring Cruise and chums is out and so are most of the reviews! Surprising absolutely noone except Cruise's mummy, they are not too flattering to say the least.

Current standings are;

24% Rotton Tomatoes

39% Metacritic

[small]Balance must be maintained.[/small] We will maintain the balance!

So in the name of balance, a film perhaps more surprising and not marketed at all has been released on DVD after a minimal screening in cinemas, entitled Prevenge.

A pitch black, wryly British comedy, PREVENGE follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree that's as funny as it is vicious. It's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. Struggling with her conscience, loneliness, and a strange strain of prepartum madness, Ruth must ultimately choose between redemption and destruction at the moment of motherhood.

Written, directed (in 11 days no less!) and acted by the very much pregnant-at-the-time Alice Lowe due to having trouble getting no work from people not wanting to hire pregnant actors, its' reception has been mostly positive. If dark Brit comedy horror is your thing of course. It won't be for those who don't appreciate that brand of humour, but for those that do, it is highly recommended.

Currently standing at;

95% Rotton Tomatoes

71% Metacritic

Has anybody already seen any of these two movies to formulate an opinion? Is anybody planning to watch either of them, regardless of reviews?

That's really kind of a sensible thing to do if you are shooting a movie or TV show.

Even if the main character is meant to be pregnant, a simple prop can replicate the look and you don't have to worry about your star going into labour and having to delay the shoot for however long it takes her to recover.

This just looks like a very transparent excuse to bait people into hearing you tell them about a movie no one cares or heard about, by shoehorning a recent blockbuster into the title and the first couple of lines of the OP.

i saw the mummy yesterday. it's not good, but it's not that bad. The main flaw is that they throw too much dark universe explanations in this to the point that the actually Mummy is almost irrelevant of that movie. except that there'sa few good acion scene, but the movie is too damn dark to really enjoy them. maybe they should had pay Tom Cruise a little bit less and keep a small budget to buy a few ligth bulbs... and yes the characters background and personnalities are thin like a sheet of paper. But i enjoyed Dr Jeckill. Maybe a Dr Jeckill/Mr hide movies with some mummy elements in it would have been better.

I'm down with the whole Groovy Ghoulies cinematic universe, but I'm not sure the mummy was the one to start with. I know the brand is pretty recognizable, but I think Dracula or Wolfman should have been the gateway to get people excited. I'll probably still see it though.

Well this is their 3rd recent attempt to reboot the Universal Monsters cinematic universe. The previous 2 movies were "I Frankenstein" and "Dracula Untold." Those both failed hard, so I guess they decided to try a new monster each movie until one of them actually worked, and THAT would be the start of the universe.

Considering how hard they're pushing this Mummy movie I really hope it fails. Does anyone even care about a universal monsters cinematic universe? What would be the payoff movie, a remake of Monster Squad?

weirdly i only watched both movies the other week.. "I Frankenstein" is technically part of the underworld universe, and was a flop, but dracula untold was straight out denied to be part of the universal monster universe but did make enough to make it right on the edge of being sequel worthy due to the box office takings. personally i hope not, it was a terrible film.

i know im definitely not interested in this cinematic universe, i already have league of extraordinary gentlemen if i want a monster mash up and i dont care what anyone says it was a fun romp :)
