I think we all have stories like this, you know some once great piece of food like a Mrs Mac's Pie or a packet of sausages or some of Ma's best soup gets left unattended for way too long and so when you open the fridge and find it you discover a stinking unholy hideous abomination of a dish.
For me personally, the worst and the reason I made this thread were two frankfurters I found in the meat tray of my fridge. They reeked like someone's feet and they had this greasy yellowish puss all over them and honestly thinking about them makes me gag... it looked like something out of an H.R Giger artwork.
So that's mine, what's yours?

Oh you don't wanna know.
I used to live with five other people and none of them wanted to clean up.
I have found pots full of nasty things I was scared to touch because I thought it was gonna attack me.

There was a rotting bowl of chili. I'm not sure why, but the mold wasn't visually apparent. I got as far as microwaving it and sticking a spoon in the bowl before I noticed the smell. Really, I have a terrible sense of smell so I didn't immediately notice.
Apparently, it was rotting for about a month.

In other news, I once made a bowl of Trix cereal with spoiled milk. I ate about half of it before I realized the cereal wasn't supposed to be sour.

My Nigerian housemate has something in a clear plastic dish that seems to resemble dried seaweed. It has been in our fridge for months and he does not want it thrown away. I would suspect it was some kind of Drug were he not the worlds most Jesus-lovin' Christian.

Soup that had been in there for two months. I think we created life...a shame it was ugly as sin and had to be killed with extreme prejudice though.

I would say that there's nothing all too disgusting or crazy in my fridge, but the worst that I could get in my fridge is that jar of pasta sauce that hasn't been touched since forever, or a jar of pickles that has suffered the same negligence, both of which are sitting in the far corners of the back of the fridge, too far for mere mortal eyes to notice.

Otherwise, the fridge is a pretty safe place to venture. Nothing but a chance of chocolate dust left behind by the chocolate bars I would eat on the spot, from the unescapably perfect and delicious cherry and orange chocolate bars that would tempt me to gorge on. Yes, chocolate has a place of honor in my fridge, you can say that.

I once found a casserole dish of enchiladas that had been pushed to back of the fridge for nearly seven months...

Lurking, like some hideous beast of the nether. Upon further investigation, I found the entire dish, which had possessed that pleasant combination of yellow and red upon being placed in the fridge, had turned a most pale and putrid green, and there were large white things growing on top of it.

Conventional methods failed against it, and we were eventually forced to call a priest.

My roommates and I cleaned out our fridge about a month ago, and we found food belonging to people that haven't lived in our apartment since Christmas. Some of the tupperware dishes we unearthed looked like samples from a deep-sea diving expedition.

I've found so much nasty stuff in my fridge that every time I open a butter container I open it like an active bomb.

Found a half-gallon of milk that had been sitting in the back of the fridge for the last three months or so. It was so rotten that the fumes were building up and causing the plastic bottle to swell. We were too afraid to open it and pour it out, so we took it out back and threw it into the woods. Not the most eco-friendly method, but it was them or us.

I pity whatever poor creature stumbles upon that mess.

Some left week old curry in my fridge. The moment I opened it I almost died of smell induced shock. Couldn't go into the kitchen for weeks
