So what are peoples thoughs on the new UI?

I took part in the bata, and I thought it was awfull and after awhile it stop working properly, for me anyway. And now that it has been released as far as I can see they have made no changes to it and it still dosent work properly.

Works fine for me. I like it, it's sleek and nice.

I only hate 1 thing about it, and that's the new message sound. I REALLY hate the new sound. Like march on down to Valve headquarters, and breaking all hard drives with HL2 EP3 on it, and yelling "START FROM SCRATCH YOU PANSY BASTARDS!".

It's incredibly annoying.

I actually prefer it. I have only been using steam for a few weeks and it seems quicker and has a much better layout in my awesome opinion.

I can't stand how many extra steps it takes to get what I want now. They made it now annoying instead of making it work better and use less RAM. As crazy as it sounds Valve should take a lesson from Microsoft about making user interfaces.

While it does tend to fuck up the odd time overall it is much better than the old one. The old one was very ugly and fucked up just as much atleast this one is nice looking.

Just opened it up - suffice to say, bricks were shat.

But, I have to say, it looks really sleek. Definitely an improvement as far as design goes.
Even if it will take me a little while to get used to maneuvering.

I quite like it, it looks sleek and more polished than the old one, but I do agree that takes longer to get to some things, like finding a game on my bloody long games list. Although now that I've organised it it's not too bad. I also like being able to access my recently played games from the tool tray.

Ok I can see what you guys are saying, that the design is a bit better but can any1 tell me how to fix the fact that i cant get onto the store, news or community pages, I just get the following message.

The URL you requested has been blocked.

Please ensure your browser LAN settings are set to auto-detect.

URL = store.steampowered.com/

this also was the problem i had during the bata

I'm not fond of the current trends for UIs to be 'sleek'; I find it just means that it's harder to use anything resembling an advanced function. I guess for me sleek would be something simple and resource friendly; I guess for developers sleek is shiny and as easy to use as a rubik's cube.

I really really not happy with how resource hoggy it can be. Part of my love for Steam was the fact that it worked on everything; now it occasionally chugs its way through even on my spiffy computers. I dread to think what will happen if I tried to run it on my old desktop again.

I took part in the beta, and its grown on me. At first I thought it was crap, and just looked nice. But once I found out where everything was, how things worked, I like it.

Plus the in-game overlay has been vastly improved in my opinion.

What exactly takes longer to get to? I find almost everything I need, including the ability to launch any game I have installed, is available just by right-clicking the taskbar icon. Much much better.

In terms of design it's an improvement. At least for me anyway. Aesthetics is almost always a matter of opinion. I do however not have any complaints with it at all. It looks noble and there weren't a lot of changes really. I am satisfied.

I suppose it takes time getting used to it though.

Before when you wanted to see the list of games you just clicked on 'My games' but now you have to click 'Games' then 'View Games Library'. It's a minor thing and barely takes a second more but it's the only thing I've noticed so far that's slower. That and the store page seems to take twice as long to load.

Overall it looks pretty good but I don't see why it needed to be changed in the first place.

It seems to have alot more difficulty with being pushed to the background. I mean, when i for example am browsing the game list while talking on msn, it takes quite some time to switch properly to the msn chat window, in fact, at some point the msn partially bugged through, allowing to type in msn while still browsing around in steam. That used to be no problem at all.

What i like most is the maximise button. Besides the difficulties with doing other things while steam is open, i feel like they seriously fcked up the game grid. I like it, i really do, but it should clearly show which games are installed and which ones arent. As it is now, it's ruined solely because of that. I know, it's a minor issue because you change it to show installed/recently played/... but i really miss a greyed out effect orso in the show all games. It annoys me for some reason. Also, in the normal list thingie it's now slightly harder to see which ones are installed and which ones arent.

All in all, seems to be ok. I've read the 'what's new' and most of it seemed like good changes.

I prefer the 'view' and then 'games list', 'games grid' or 'games details' depending on what i feel like/need. Why they have a games library menu option while view already has it covered that i havent figured out yet.
