Every few years or so a particular genre takes the lime-light and gets expanded on. There was the adventure game boom and the RTS genre had its time, and still does to some extent, and now it is the FPS's time. Now I've been thinking, what genre will be next, or will we actually see something new take form?

RPG's, I bet. Personally, I want to see a high quality puzzle game revolution, but RPGs are OK too.

I think 3rd-Person Shooters may be the next 'big genera'.

Personally, I WISH more "PC best" games would come out for consoles.

4X, PnC Adventure, RTS, ect.

I'd wish for 3rd person RPG/hybrids. But RPG's aren't as cheap to make as FPSs, so I don't think the market would willingly go that way without kicking and screaming in protest.

You forgot platformers.

I'd like to see a 4X boom, or whatever genre Starflight and Star Control were, but I bet the next big thing will be open-world Minecraft clones.

Well what with graphics becoming realistic and motion controls and what not, its very clear that sex simulation will be the next big thing

I think I am gonna have to agree with the open world guess. Too many big hits have came out in that genre in the past couple years. Red Dead Redemption, inFamous, GTA(always a hit and 5 is on the way), Minecraft, Oblivion & Skyrim (it will be a hit), even Arkham Asylum was 'sandboxy'. As well, Saint's Row 3 will probably be a hit and this is even leaving some out like Prototype and Just Cause. Sandboxes are making safe bank right now and gamers are praising the hell out of them to boot so odds are there will be a bigger spike in the next few years. It takes a minute to develop them though so it may be a couple years. But I think we are witnessing the beginnings of it right now. Then we will see a bunch of threads titled "Not ANOTHER generic sandbox".

Really? Gears of War wasn't big enough? Mass Effect not big enough?
Considering there's like 10 some-odd FPS released per TPS...

...Yep...

Well personally I think we're finally starting to see Sandbox games done actually right, I mean I love sandbox games and have played some really shitty but well like ones (Assassin's Creed 2, ugh) some great classics (Crackdown, Dead Rising) some pretty decent recent ones (Red Dead Redemption, Just Cause, prototype) some under appreciated gems (Incredible Hulk, red faction guerilla) and some great ones (Saints Row 2, Arkham City) and only recently with stuff like Arkham City, Just Cause 2, and the upcoming Saints Row the Third and Skyrim am I seeing really, really top notch stuff from this angle

Well, the TPS is becoming more prominent now than FPS.

Unless you can name me more FPS titles than TPS released recently...
