The overall world design looks great and mysterious at the same time. The gameplay looks good (I always love "dat slide") with possible large boss fights, though I'm guessing it will lean towards simplicity. Not many video games pique my interest anymore because you basically already played it and it's no longer a fresh experience. It's just a game with a vision and that's all it's going to be, lean and mean.

Another trailer with no gameplay. Atmosphere looks interesting, but until they show the actual gaming parts it means nothing to me.

I'm pretty sure all the parts where she's running and shooting arrows are gameplay shots.

If this game is anything like ABZU and Journey(which was a massive influence on ABZU), I suspect we've already seen everything we need to know about it. It's very pretty, some fairly simple controls, probably no more then like 2-3 hours(5 hours, tops) long and likely fairly linear.

I'm fine with that. I loved Journey, liked ABZU a lot and I suspect this will be much the same beautiful cinematic game with a little platforming and some combat.

I don't know, the whole pastel-coloured indie game thing doesn't feel as fresh as it did back in 2010. They all just seem like they're trying to replicate Journey. And Journey was great, but it's so simple in gameplay and narrative that making more of that type of game just feels superfluous -- I'll just play Journey again. It's not like Abzu added anything to the formula other than 'you're in water now'.

This game seem to be more focused on action though, so who knows, but I can't say it looks like anything other than another one of those games.

What is shown of the world looks pretty, the main character looks interesting, but I'm left wondering how much of a game there is beneath all that.

When I was playing Journey I really liked the designs of the parts of the world that you ran through, but I was disappointed that all you really did was just walk around, it all felt like more of a tech demo. I wish that they'd build on the basis of journey and create a larger adventure game around it.

Same with the game RiME, it had a lovely world, charming graphics, fun mechanics, but it felt empty and meaningless. I would have loved to have a world with the looks of RiME be filled with NPCs and adventures, but alas.

These kinds of games have their value and I appreciate the people who make them, but sometimes they feel like half-games, although polished half-games.

It looks like they just took Horizon: ZD, SotC and Journey, mashed them together and added a bird. The name may very well be a double entendre, but I?m sure the bird will help out at least in the gameplay regard,
before dying at the end.

These sorts of games are pleasant and therapeutic, perfect for stressful minds or humans with personal difficulties where accessibility is an important factor. Hopefully this turns out as good as the rest, though I didn't find Rime that interesting or anywhere near as effective as Journey, flower, flow and Abzu. It felt like it was trying, no doubt there for sure. But ever so slightly missing the mark.

I just finished a 70ish hour open world game and god knows I have a couple more planned for the next year or so(Both Red Dead Redemptions, AC:Oddessy, Probably get around to Horizon:Zero Dawn this year) and I kind of look forward to games like ABZU, Journey, Pathless, because it's a relatively short and simple game I can enjoy and soak in without booking the next two months to finish.

Hell, I still remember Journey a lot more then half the games I've played in the past few years. Not bad for a 2 hour game.

Even ABZU, which wasn't quite the same, was close enough to evoke much the same kind of feeling for me and I'm glad to see something else like it.

I didn't care for Rime at all either. I don't really know what it is that makes like an ICO or Journey great to me and makes Rime pretty shitty outside of just saying the intangibles. The Pathless trailer interested me far more than the entire playthrough of Rime. I'm trying to play Hob right and sorta have the same feeling about it as Rime. It just feels like I'm running around trying to find the next interactive switch vs being engrossed like I am by a Flower or Journey or Abzu.

I feel the same nowadays. It takes so much for me to just try an RPG nowadays because I feel over half the playtime in just about all of those games just isn't quality time, I feel like I'm doing busywork most of the time in those games instead of just experiencing the stuff I legitimately enjoy. Same with most open world game, which are mainly just checklists to be completed. I hope you enjoy Horizon when you get around to it. For me, I was totally sucked into that game and actually sorta felt a void when I finished it and was sad that the experience was over. On paper, it has lots of common open world elements but they are all very reserved in nature like the collectible that is the most abundant only has 30 to collect, there's only 5/6 "towers", the total quests the game has is only in the 40s, etc. Most games definitely feel more along the lines of time-wasters really vs the memorable experiences that every piece of art should strive to be.

Thanks. I've been trying to avoid learning too much about it because I don't want to spoil the plot for myself aka "Why all the robot animals?"(I suspect it was some kind of AI run amuck or something because isn't it always?) but I've heard it's very good from a lot of people. And apparently it's not as long as a lot of other HUGE Open World games out there.

I think I'm going to move it to the top of my "Long Game" list. Granted, I'm still gonna play through a couple short games in the meantime. Gris just dropped and apparently it's kinda like Journey but 2D, so I'll be trying that soon.
