This post is in response to
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95034-New-PlanetSide-in-the-Works

I played Planetside when it first launched for about a year. I had a great time, it was the first time I really joined an online clan and played with them, it was my first MMO, and my first online FPS that I really enjoyed.

But I don't think I will play Planetside for any real amount of time ever again. although the sequel could be another story.

but even with the news of the sequel I find myself torn between really excited and really.. just dreading the release of the game. I do not think that SOE has any chance of DOING something with the Planetside games, the first Planetside suffered from balance issues, a lack of development after release, a lack of detail (for an MMO, which can range from the somewhat deep to the extremely intricate) and a lack of support from SOE.

and it got me thinking, what would be the perfect FPS MMO? what features would it HAVE to have in order for it to be a hit? Planetside enjoyed a moderate success after its release, nothing on the scale of WOW, but nothing pathetic either.

I personally think that a Good MMO FPS has the potential to make a HUGE impact on the gaming world. It is a hole in the industry that I have never really understood WHY it exists. Planetside was released 6 YEARS AGO! Instead of completing with WOW,which, lets face it, strengthens its hold on the MMO RPG every expansion, create something in which NO ONE has really made a solid, very concentrated effort on in half a decade!

so I ask you people, what would be worth your monthly fee to get you to buy an FPS MMO?

FPS MMO? Like MAG?
MAG to me seems to work like advertised. Although the lack of people with mics on PSN makes communication somewhat of a problem. Hopefully the game will compel a lot more people to buy mics and get rid of that minor problem. I don't think I'll ever really get into subscription gaming, even for a life changing game.

MAG, from what I understand, is not an MMO, it is simply a online FPS shooter with a large player cap (200 per side) you have matches, and when the match ends, the server resets the work you have done on that map.

for example, Planetside (300 per side cap) had a whole would to play on, there are/were no "maps" you could fly from one continent to another, it is a PERSISTENT world, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistent_world

in other ones one that just because you stop playing doesn't mean that game world doesn't change due to player action while you are gone.

A good FPSMMO in my opinion would have to not be completely dependant on levels and stats, there would need to be skill evolved aswell.

Only ones I've heard of are Fallen Earth and The Agency, Fallen Earth just came out so I'm waiting for afew reviews amongst other things and I think The Agency comes out next year.

I'm hopeful a good one will come along soon and I can migrate from whatever MMO I'm playing at the time.

A perfect FPS MMO? You're asking for alot there. Most MMO's are flawed by the players, who just become the most annoying thing. I guess for a good shooter MMO, it'd have to play well.

Levels will not work in the traditional sense However an MMO needs to maintain a level of grind such as a skill system (speed+, jump packs, weapon upgrades/specaialization) kind of like the battlefield2/2142 system.
Honestly I think BF2 with an added instance/world shard system would be the way to go.
