The Playstation Store (eu) and it's problems

First off, let me say that I love my ps3. I got one of the early 60gb models and I have loved it since. But in terms of downloading, the pc with steam (and possibly the xbla) is so much better. My key example is that, Mass Effect 2 (great game) has just been released on ps3. I loved it on the pc so I got it on the ps3 to compare. I'm still very much a physical medium person, so I'll always get a disk over a download unless it's cheaper. In the UK, the game retails for about £40, give or take £5 either way. On the ps store, it's £48. Why is this more? There's no blu-ray disk to pay for. No packaging. So why is it £8 more. Can't they pass on the saving they get to encourage me to buy it. I fear that soon we will take the more expensive digital route and companies will get charge the same and increase their profits that way. I appreciate that everyone needs money, and with the way our economics are going, is it a good way to make me buy less?

By the way, what's the US or Japanese ps stores like, I'm curious?

I suppose convenience has a cost itself, but most digital prices have always been stupid at one point or another.


The US and Japanese PSN stores are vastly superior, as far as I'm concerned. Last time I checked, Europe always got the short end of the stick when it came to games, both digital and otherwise.

Games are generally about market price, with a few exceptions of games that fail to drop.

In the US it is $60 (the same price as retail). However, if PSN starts making it a habit of undercutting the retails too much, the retails will start making it a habit of not carrying Sony games.
