List of games just brought!

Skyrim, oblivion, morrowind, dishonored, Fallout 3 (goty), Fallout new Vegas, doom 3 bfg, Rage, quake 4, quake 3, quake 2, quake, (including all mission packs and dlc for quake games), Brink and all brink dlc

How much I paid on PC £55/$90

How much would that lot be on consoles? Just looking at the cheapest price for the 3 newest games in that list puts the price over the total price I paid.

What I'm really saying here is

I BLOODY LOVE STEAM SALES

I thought you were going to say how easier it is to pirate PC games through torrent dowloading.
Anyway, true and true.

Isn't buying PC games usually a good $5 to $10 cheaper anyway without Steam sales?

That said, console gaming is having some good sales this month. Blops 2 is £25 new, Halo 4 is going for £30 new, Borderlands 2 is going for £25, Dishonored is £22 new as well, Far Cry 3 is £22.49 new and Hitman: Absolution is £20 in my local GAME shop. WWE 13 was also £20 in November.

But yeah, we console players have the used market which is more or less our Steam.
Just with the rare chance the game might not work. :p

I suppose you could just buy an old 2nd hand console with a load of games for peanut's but for anyone wanting to play current games PC is by far the cheapest option, especially when it comes to indies. MS is a joke for letting ppl have downloadable games on a discount.

well consoles have the used market that can match in price depending on your luck.
Then you'd have to add the price of an online pass for some games, no such issues with steam.

How much did your gaming rig cost, however?
My rigs current value is about £800, but I'd say I've spent about £1.2k in the last 5 years (about the same as my brothers spent replacing Xbox's I might add) largely irrelevant though, as a rig capable of running at the same level as the Xbox/Ps3 wouldn't cost much more than either console.

It sure is but a quick look on amazon shows me I saved about $100 over the console versions of the game (I know I probably could have found them cheaper elsewhere but cba to look). I don't consider the used game market anything like steam. Steam game are new with everything intact no potential missing content anywhere.

Agreed about skyrim a brand new wallet busting rig is not needed to play anything in the current market. People seem to forget that the xbox/ps3 run games at 720p at the low to medium graphics settings of the pc. Sure if you want to max the settings of the current games you'll need to spend lots of dough. To make it look like the xbox version you could get away with spending $300-$400 and then save loads of money on games.

I've looked up how to pirate PS3 games; looks pretty damn easy--install custom firmware, make sure you're not connected to the internet, and install some .pckg files from a USB drive. I've never done it myself given that I don't have a PS3, but it seems fairly simple, so I don't really buy the argument that it's vastly harder to pirate games on console than it is on PC. Xbox might be a different story.
In time you will come to realize the gaping difference between that which "seems fairly simple" and that which "is 100% tried and true simple".
