There are a couple of things on my mind that I would like to share with this community. First a little story, unfortunately there is no sex or violence but this is supposed to be a family friendly site so what can you do.
I recently purchased Dragon Age: Origins and started to play it tonight but I can't seem to get past the character creation screen. It?s the same problem that I had with Mass Effect, namely there are no attractive female PCs. It does bring to mind the question of why Bioware with all of its talent can't create a beautiful preset PC female character. I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that I am not the only one who enjoys looking at a pretty lady and doesn't have all the time or talent in the world to create a knock out using Dragon Age: Origins slider bar system. I have made a post on the Dragon Age: Origins forum asking about the possibility of uploading or sharing the masterpiece of one of the many face creation gurus out there but that will take some time, not much but I am an impatient man.
In order to answer the question myself I decided to Google the women who a feel is the most attractive person I have ever seen, Bianca Beauchamp. Now if you are going to Google her there are a couple of things I need to tell you; she is Canadian so I think that neatly proofs that Canadian girls are hot and many of the photos are shall we say racy so click with care. Anyways I looked at Bianca's face and compared it to the preset that Bioware has and to my shock and amazement the preset face was not all that ugly compare to Bianca. So of course now my dilemma becomes how to I account for this difference and two thoughts come to mind; clothing and the body.
Now as far as clothing is concerned there are a myriad of examples in the fantasy world of skimpy armor of course come to think of it Bioware isn?t known for showing the goods so maybe that is another Bioware thing. As far as the body is concerned Mrs. Beauchamp is how shall I say this well endowed in her chest and so quickly a question comes to mind; why is it that Bioware doesn't give us the ability to change body types and anatomical features?
Yahtzee has of course been stating these points to anyone who will hear him and I agree whole heartedly. Shouldn't role playing be as much about what your character looks like and what they wear as much as what they think and what they do? And isn't it a responsibility of Bioware as a leading developer of RPGs to push the genre forward in new directions? Don't get me wrong I love Bioware as a Canadian and as a gamer. I am no developer so I may be talking out of my ass here so that accounts for the muffled sound you are hearing, but isn't a clothing and body generating system much easier to create than say a dialogue tree or a series of uncharted worlds? Everyone to some extent is a lover of graphics so why not play into that by having these options available? Thanks for any light you can shed on the dark of this situation.
