The Top Three Contenders for GOTY

Arkham City has just been released to universal critical acclaim. Uncharted 3 and Skyrim are just around the corner and the anticipation for these games is immense. Personally, these three games are probably the top contenders for GOTY amongst the fans and the major gaming publications IMO.

Which three games do the members of the Escapist think are the ones that will be in the race for GOTY 2011?

I think all games everywhere will declare themselves to be game of the year, especially the green lantern movie-licensed game, if there is one.

Arkham City, Skyrim and perhaps BF3 or CoD.

I really hope CoD doesn't win, I'm not a fanboy or anything, but the games are boring as hell.

My personal favourite to win is Arkham

I agree with OP's top 3 and would probably throw in Portal 2 as well. I would say Arkham City is my favorite to win but we'll see what Skyrim has to offer in a few weeks.

Speaking as someone who hasn't played many games released this year Im gonna be biased and say what is my fave Shogun 2 (even though i know the chances are slim to none) hopefully gonna be able to play arkham city soon which i have heard only good things on and skyrim is likely to be awesome so i'll go with them i guess.

Wow Portal 2 was forgotten quickly. I think Portal 2 will give them all a good run for their money Then again I'm biased because I've never played Uncharted and hated Oblivion. I can't wait to get my hands on some Arkham City though.

Edit: Ninja'd lol Uh, to make this post have something fresh and new in it... I'll throw out some Zelda: Skyward Sword love. Assassin's Creed Revalations could be good as well.

Well, so far, my funnest games to play this year have been Portal 2 and Dead Island... Skyrim holds a lot of promise, as does Saints Row The Third....

For me, personally... these 4 will be my GOTY's.

It's not like you can just walk in a bookstore and see it stamped on every book.

And to piss people off, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus rereleases. Because frankly, it's the only thing out this year I'm buying.

probably will add uncharted 3 or skyrim to that.

i didn't get to play dark souls or a few others i'd like to..but i'm sure they'd be up there too if i had the chance to play em.

this! as much as i look forward to Skyrims ''supposed'' 300+ hours of gameplay, i have already poured over 400 man hours into Shogun, and have loved every second, both single and multiplayer. it gets my game of the year!

Edit - i don't know why people are lording Arkham City so hard...hate to be that guy. i picked it up today, played for about 2 hours and...meh. i removed it from the disc tray and put Dark Souls back in its rightful place

Portal 2 and Deus Ex: HR are my top two thus far. Also if I had a 360 or PC Bastion looks like it would be right up my alley.

As much as I'd like to say some other titles I've enjoyed this year, like Dragon Age II and inFamous 2, it's probably going to come down to Skyrim, Uncharted 3 and Arkham City. Two late-comers that might have a shot though would be Saints Row the Third and Modern Warfare 3. I'm skeptical about Modern Warfare though after how badly they mangled the story in the second game even if the gameplay is still solid. If Uncharted 3 is as good as 2 though then it should win hands down, even with some stuff competition. The sheer requirements of that damn train level still boggle my mind years later.
