The transition from PC to console gaming

Okay, so I've been playing games for over ten years now and I was always a hardcore PC gamer, until I bought an Xbox 360 about a year ago, and I am loving it!

However, when I first started playing on the 360, the main difference I noticed from the PC was the immersion. I found it harder to get lost in the games when I was playing with a controller and sitting on my sofa. I think it may have something to do with being so close to the screen when you are playing on a PC; it essentially takes up your entire view!

I am getting used to it now, and I'm really enjoying games such as GTAIV, Assassins Creed and Borderlands on my 360, but this difference was just something I found really noticable.

So, I ask you, has anyone else had a similar experience in their transition from PC to console? Or has anything else been a factor in your own platform hopping?

Ah yeah, I totally agree man. I am in no way writing off the PC. I still play HL2 and L4D on it all the time. It was just my first time getting a console of my own :D

I kinda hop from one to the other... Mainly based on what's closest to my bed.

I personally find controllers more immersive than keyboard mouse. I think it's because you don't have to move your hands to make your little onscreen dude dance to your tune. Yes! YES! DANCE, LITTLE MONKEY MAN!

Ah. I started on PC, but got a Genesis when I was seven, so I never really noticed the difference! ^_^

You make it sound like this transisition is inevitable - I own both, and prefer the PC. Better looking games, better control schemes, Steam(!), customisability, etc.

The 360 is used for exclusives and when I really can't wait due to a staggered release (like what they're doing with AC2).

My factor was losing 50 IQ points.

Joking aside, it was because my computer was becoming obsolete. I still have to get a new one and I'll probably divide my time more easily when I do.

Same here I get some games for my 360 because of the control scheme and some for the P.C. for its controls such like i prefer TF2 for the Pc then 360 because of the more people and features

I cant fully do it. Still cant beat a multiplayer game on PC. If you dont know any better than sure the console will be fine. But its like eating at a 5 star restaurant for years then going and being forced to eat microwave dinners.

I play most of my games on the PC. Pretty much any game that would handle better on a PC which is pretty much anything but a select handful of games. Obviously there are the console specific games but the game im looking forward to most on the 360 is Forza 3. I love racing sims and forza 3 is probably the best one ever made so ill get it around christmas and spend several hundred hours playing that. But ya I'll always be a PC gamer first until they stop making games for PC.

That's a good point mate. I still play games on my PC too, but mine is also becoming obsolete very quickly. I think that's definitely what drew me to buy a console as well - the fact that I can guarantee every game will work how it is supposed to (on that platform)

I quite like the Xbox 360 for gaming as I can use it without getting rather crippling wrist pain from bad ergonomics on my mouse.

That's actually one of the reasons why I would never want to fully commit to console games. The developer's opinion of how a game should run is often just not good enough. Being able to fix framerates and mod games is important. Enjoy your console games that run just under the resolution they are displayed at, smeared over with a vaseline visual effect to hide the jaggies, all while running at a very unstable 30 fps complete with screen tearing.

You know what is the most addictive? Console on a PC monitor, i bought an xbox adapter because we only had one tv in a house of four people, so rather than hog the lounge I could play in my room.

I was close to the screen and the resolution was better than on the TV, it also had the plug and play ease of the console with no crashes or distractions from the internet. As it was in my room it wasn't bound by the normal etiquette of a lounge (noise etc).

I would stop playing when I realised it was dawn.

I could be less colorful in my use of language, yes, but I'm not going to lie or keep quiet just to be seen as a man of the people.
