Akin to the Unofficial Steam Trading thread I thought we could have one for Steam trading cards which just went public today. It would help keep the trading thread clear of those just trading cards, whilst keeping the regular forums free of other trading threads. Hopefully it catches on!

If you are new to this latest scheme of Valve's and have questions then check out the Steam Trading Cards FAQ:

http://steamcommunity.com/tradingcards/faq/

The rules

Format your trade post like this:

I have:
Game: {cards you have to trade here}

I would like:
Game: {desired card names here}
- Only post here if you are trading cards.
- Only trade through the Steam trading system.
- Only post card trades or things that can be traded through Steam.
- Haggle with people using a private message rather than clogging up the thread.
- Update your post using the 'Edit' button after trading rather than making new posts.

Happy trading!

So, I'll go first.

I have the following cards:

* Defense Grid: Protect the Cores, Is Something Burning
* Fortix: Knight of Fortiana
* Gunpoint: The City
* KoPaP: Yoga
* Psychonauts: Raz
* Retro City Rampage: The Player x2, Pixel my Ride x2, Kickin' it Old School, Death by a Drenching

Uh... what do these trading cards... do, exactly? I keep getting them and even though I keep disapproving of them they keep appearing.
If you get a full set you can make a badge. Crafting badges will give you exp, which raises your steam level, and the crafting process has a chance to give you a special reward; a coupon, a chat emoticon, etc.

How do you get these cards anyway? Just checked my inventory and got 4, all of them from crusader kings 2.

Dont see the appeal in leveling up my steam account but i do like the idea of collecting cards related to games i enjoy.

We're trading digital cards that we combine into digital badges so we in the end can make... smileys? What?

Can anyone tell me how this actually works? I'm assuming unlike most trading card games, if I trade away a card I have, I still "keep" it for my badge?

I'm still not sure I want to try and level up my steam account, it seems pretty silly but I guess there's nothing to lose from doing some trading.

EDIT: not gonna bother trading anymore
I Have for trade:
Crusader Kings 2: The Feast, The Sunset Invasion x 2
Borderlands 2: Maya, Salvador

I'd like:
Other Cards for CK2 and BL2 I guess?

Nope. Trade it away, and you need to get it again if you want it for your badge.

Yes, pretty much. It's fluff, but with human psychology at work, they're going to be a bit of a meta-RMAH, especially considering that you can't get all of them on your own (unless you have an infinite amount of time).

This card game seems like a lot of hassle for a little gain. Wondering if its not better to just sell the cards and level up my bank account rather than my steam account.

That said I would like to have one of the new backgrounds for steam.

Essentially yes.
It's just a neat little extra to reward people who play a lot of different games. Builds a sense of community with the trading and such too. I can see why they did it.

But.. Now I'm confused. How are you supposed to complete badges if you can only gain a certain number of cards on your own? If I trade away my CK2 cards to get the CK2 cards I don't have, I'm no closer to getting a badge. o.o

Why, buy them on the community market, of course (or trade away cards from other games, but then you'd have to buy THOSE on the community market if you wanted that badge too)! Or wait for them "booster packs" random drops, but those both drop rarely and the chance is skewed in favor of higher steam levels. This is by design, of course.

Quite a scheme, ainnit, imagine EA or Activision did something like this...

Hey, I'm not complaining. I sold the cards I got from Faerie Solitare - a game I acquired for free - and made a few dollars out of it. Anything which lets me make a profit from playing games is okay with me!

I only have four games that are involved with this trading card thing, Psychonauts, FTL, Don't Starve, and Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten.

The only one I have cards for is Defender's Quest because I just got the game on sale a few days ago. The other games I haven't played in awhile. I'll really only be able to get new cards from Psychonauts and FTL, because Don't Starve was one of those impulse purchases where I figured my old PC could run it because it doesn't look graphically amazing, but turns out it can't because I'm missing a certain kind of shader. It will just be one of those games that I'll have to wait for a couple years to play, until I can actually get a new PC.

I'll be back here if I find I want certain cards, though I'm not at that point yet.
