I didn't even know off the last Wheel of Time book...
Was it any good? My interest has been perked up. I need a book to read.

Jordan is dead, and I've kind of moved on from the series.

As a kid, the books where fascinating, but I tried re-reading The Great Hunt recently and just couldn't do it.

The characters I already disliked seemed more annoying than ever (just about every female character except perhaps Moiraine) and even the characters I previously liked seemed a bit stale and a little too simple.

I blame George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. I've gotten use to the ridiculously well thought out plot, the startling realism of the characters, and the world of Westeros in general. The Wheel of Time just lacks the depth that Martin has put into his masterpiece.

EDIT: Wow, if it's coming out Tuesday, I'll have to look into it. I'll be damned if I read the first 11 for nothing.

Too much time took place even between book 8 and 9 for me to stick with the series. I purchased book 9 and attempted to read it, but due to the ammount of time and all the wonderfull Glen Cook books I had read in between, I just couldent get into it. Well Rereading the first 8 books again for a refresher was out of the question. (takes too long.)

I've actually only read the first but it's one of the best books I've ever read. Really want to thump through them all but, I only have up to 6 at the moment.

It has been a staple of my book cabinet since I started it and despite stopping starting and re-starting at various stages I still really love the story and characters

Book 13 pt 1 comes out next week and I will be getting it within the week.

I lost interest in the series around book 7.

Is Jordan really dead? Regardless I think it's about time that series reached a conclusion. It's dragged on for a little too long I think.

Seeing as The Wheel of Time series has it's own damn bookshelf in my room, I'd say I'm looking forward to it. Hesitantly, though.

I am nervous about Sanderson ghost writing the rest of the series, although the fact that RJ's wife will still be editing it alleviates some of that concern. I never did get a chance to sample some of his work, so if anyone has, let me know if you think he's up to the task.

Half way through book 10 at the moment (for the second time), so will probably end up finished that and 11 before reading The Gathering Storm.

I got through the first half of the first book, and couldn't take anymore. It started off rather good, but then he pulled a George RR Martin and started telling 12 different stories, only 2-3 of which were of any interest at all. It coulda been excellent if he had resisted the urge to do that :(.

I can't wait. As terrible as it was that Jordan died, Sanderson is probably the best person for the job, seeing as he's a newer, yet very talented writer, who won't have an inflated ego to get in the way. Plus, he practically worships Robert Jordan, so I think he'll do his best to keep the tone and such as close to the originals as possible. And with all the chunks of writing and notes left by Jordan, and the fact that Harriet is so involved, I'm optimistic.

Whoa, use a spoiler tag dude, character death is the kinda thing they were made for.
Errm...Robert Jordan? As in the author who wrote TWoT?
But, you didn't make it that clear and to anybody who hasn't read the series, I could see how this could appear spoilerific.

OT: Help. I've almost finished the first chapter of the first book, and it seems to be the literary equivalent of wading through tasteless syrup. It's hard to read, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of life - will it get any better?

I guess...I figured anyone interested in The Wheel of Time would at least know who the author is.

It's all downhill Mr. Munch, get out while you can.
