So I'm nearly certain this has been covered at some point, but this is an issue I pursue with some fervor, so if necessary, by all means give me the token insult for reposting what I'm sure is a beaten and bloodied dead horse, so to speak.
Any hxc gamers out there will agree in the sentiment that the Wii is something of a disappointment, to put it mildly. What I want to know is
1) What about the Wii makes it a n00b console?
2) Can Nintendo mend its relationship with gamers?
To answer my own questions:
1) I think the Nintendo tried too much to make its next-gen system to the "appeal to as many people as possible" demographic. Sure, it's great for the family to go get the Wii, as it's got games that anyone can play; I'm talking Wii Sports, Mario Party, Mario Kart, blahblahblahMario, you know the games I'm talking. Heck, to a point there have been a fair amount of respectable franchises brought to the Wii, if you're a Metroid/Mario/Zelda fan. OF course then we go down the road of beating the same old franchises to death, but on Nintendo's next-gen system, what else can be expected?
2) Honestly at this point I don't know what Nintendo can do. The Wii has been financially supportive enough to give Nintendo the idea that the Wii is a good idea, so my wager is that that's the route they'll take in any future systems they come out with. But, if only it exists as fantasy on the part of hxc Nintendo fans out there, not unlike myself, I for one am pulling for the Revolution - of course that was the original name for what is now the Wii, but I'm thinking this could be a route Nintendo could take and really put it in the same category as the PS3 and X360. Of course at the same time, Microsoft and Sony are going to be working on their stuff, so really, the question to take from this is: has Nintendo shot themselves in the foot with respect to their hardcore fans?
