Okay so today's daily deal from steam includes the 2 witcher games having heavy discounts, and im considering partaking. Is it worth it to play the first 1 or should i just skip to the second one?

You could always just buy both, it's what, $26 for the two of em?

Other than that, I'd say Witcher 2 but then I don't know if the sequel calls to the previous a lot but I don't think it does.

IMO go straight to 2. Not that the first isn't worth playing, but you can definitely play it afterwards if you want.

I think the first does have some good elements, but for the most part everything is bigger and better in the 2nd (except for free roaming... that's a little more limited...)

Well il be honest, i have ALOT of games i want to play at any given time, so it's less a matter of money than it is time. I have a tendency with series to play the best of it only unless the story makes it worth while (went straight to HL2 without playing the original half life)

I personally found the first Witcher to be fairly rubbish. The second one seems pretty good though.

I jumped straight into the Witcher 2 and adored it with the story making sense.

I haven't played the first but I can say you won't have problems just jumping into number two, although I've only finished the first chapter (about 10 hours on it) then got sidetracked by Fallout: NV.

It looks beautiful and plays exactly how I want an RPG to, highly recommended.

I'd go for the second one first to be honest. You can play the original first, but it's very much a rough gem.

If you want to play just one, then The Witcher 2 is the better choice. Better combat, more interesting characters, a deeper and more engaging story, less awkward situations etc. However, the first one warrants a playthrough at least once as it is a good game with many flaws.

The first one is best skipped, some people really get on with it, and if you can dig through it has a really great plot, some great twists and very nice character freedom. But it's buried hard in a mire of inconvenient design decisions and it's a game that has no respect for your time. The Witcher 2 is pretty much pure unfiltered awesome.

I recommend both. The Witcher 1 is slightly dated, so don't play it if you can't handle games from four years ago :p, but it's a great story done in an old-school crpg style, and it's quite a bit longer than the second game, so it's more bang for your buck in a certain sense. It's also on sale under the "Deals" list at GoG.com if you want more of your money to go directly to the developer.

Both but 2 is by far far far far the superior product in every way and the 1st is not necessary -at all- to play it. Because you won't know who anyone is anyway unless you read the books. Note: The glossary/character section of your journal is your friend, and remember the central conciet of the game is that the main character has Amnesia. Which means, if the game doesn't explain something, assume Geralt is just as confused as you but he's excellent at going along with shit.

The only thing from the first game you need to know is how it sets up the second: you end the first game rescuing the local king from an assasin who looks suspiciously very much like a witcher, and as a result you and your smoking hot sorceress lady friend land cush jobs in his court (actually she was already his advisor, you just get to be his new bodyguard.)

Also in the first game the events involve heavily the Scoia'tel, an elf/dwarf/non human paramilitary/terrorist group fighting for non human dominance/equality (things are never black and white in The Witcher). Events referenced in the game are, by in large, events from the BOOKS (which are in polish) not the first game, with the exception of the life/death of Adda (which happens in the first game depending on your actions and has no real effect on the events)

Effectively, the last game only influences, slightly, the events of the intro chapter that teaches you the controls. And like the last game, The Witcher 2 doesn't really pick up until -after- the intro chapter, namely once you reach the first village you start getting neck deep in quests n shit.

Just remember: If you don't know something, Geralt probably doesn't either - for instance a womans name comes up alot (Yennifer) and he doesn't know who the fuck she is, just that she was important.

Both games are great.

The first game is really long and immersive and fun and draws you in and has one hell of a twist. I really enjoyed it and the game drew me in loads, it is like an Elder Scrolls games but with strong characters and story and much more directed and focused,

The second game is also really good, but it drew me in less, storyline and characters were great, but the world feels less real and the realistic, still worth a play though.
