Hey guys ive been playing The Witcher for a while but ive just become bogged down and am kinda bored with it, but after playing Witcher 2 round my mates house i think the second one is really good and hes offering to give it to me for my Bday, should i just go to the second one or finish the first?

the question is mostly coming from the fact i have very limited Hard drive space atm so i would have to uninstall something (probably withcer 1) to load the new one

I personally loved the first one, so i would recommend finishing it. It also allows your save game to be used in the second one and allot of references are used in the second to the first. If you stick with it, your experience with the second will be richer. Still, if you don't like it that much, it is a very long game. So you might have trouble.

Overall, I do recommend finishing it, but if you really want to play the second, you wont miss a massive amount.

Well if you uninstall the witcher 1 can't you just reinstall it later? I mean that is if you want to get back to the first one.

I've never played either of those games so thats the best advice I got is up there!

The Witcher 2 does feature some save game stuff from the first game, but it is nowhere near the level of changes that Mass Effect's import could do. The second game works pretty well as a standalone if you don't want to play the first. But if you are a completion fetishist, then keep the first one handy for a couple references.

Always play the first one first. Especially with The Witcher, which is a really, REALLY story-driven game, even reading some of the books wouldn't hurt before yous start number 2.

Well the witcher 1 does bog down after you get into Vizima. Basically the latter chapters all build up to one central hook, but its a really rough road to get to that point.

You CAN skip it, The narrative from the witcher 1 will only give you some minor insights into the world of Witcher 2. Only thing thats truly relevant is that you can utilize the save file from witcher 1 in witcher 2, however you can also download save files that meet that end anyway to get those extras.

I say press on... I mean its entertainment, and yanno even if its not the best thing in the world, it still beats working.

The witcher 1 dose give you some background information but it?s not really necessary and you can read up on wiki if something confuses you. Import wise it doesn?t really do much other than give you some better starting equipment and a few changes in dialogue here and there and you can just download a save anyway. That said if you just run thru the game and use a guide it shouldn't take you to long to do anyway.

I am EXTREMELY torn when deciding which is the better game.

Witcher 1 is clearly more traditional RPG. The story is better, and a lot more satisfying, and the effects of your choices more interesting.

Witcher 2 on the other hand is one of the prettiest games I have ever laid eyes on (especially the first chapter), has a great cast, good voice acting and a STELLAR script. The combat is more streamlined and fun and it has a few romantic scenes that are just...completely awesome. And not in a HURR DURR BOOBS kind of way, just plain awesome.

They are both awesome games in their own right and I really urge you to finish the first one, the ending is really worth it imo...but if you want a more actiony experience, jump on the second one. Its a fantastic piece of work.

Should be able to figure it out, the only major recurring characters are ones you'll have already met if you even got past the first chapter in the first game: Triss, Dandelion and Zoltan. Journal entries and the like should bring you up on the rest. If you want a really quick summary -tiny spoiler- the game ends with Geralt getting shit done and going to retrieve payment from the king only to end up interrupting an attempted assassination on the kings life. Cue Witcher 2 where it begins with said king still keeping Geralt around as a bodyguard 'just in case'.

Hell that's such a minor spoiler one of the games own trailers reveals it:

Some things do carry over from the original if you load a Witcher 1 save, a few minor quest details and some awesome armour & weapons. But for the most part you'd get the same experience without.

I do recommend finishing Witcher 1 though. It does get boring at times but in the end it's worth it. I certainly had a lot of fun with the game and in the third quarter when things pick up speed everything gets quite intense. Still if you really don't want to you'll not miss out on too much by skipping to the second. The main plots are mostly unrelated, though there is one over-arching story element that you might not quite understand.
