Buddhists have no gods, except for the few that take Buddha himself for a god.
You know I always found that very interesting. Buddha said there were no gods, not one. And yet some revere him as a god, completely against what he taught. I mean, I get their original thinking: To them he's the 'enlightened one' who taught them so much. But yet...he said 'no gods'...I guess some people can't shake old habits (In this case, Hinduism).

Actually, Buddhism has Brahma. In Hinduism it's only one god, but they have several of them and all of them are "all powerful".

All of my problems stem from the fact that the human race exists. So do yours.
Also, there's not much point in censoring curse words.

Anything to do with restricting sex

only rape and pedophileisim should be banned

everything else should be ALLOWWED
Necrophilism is allowed, then? How nifty...
Don't forget extreme sadism! Nothing says "Sex" like amputating your partners' arm and watching them bleed out because you have issues.
Sex needs to be kept away from people who are too stupid to pass a reproduction test.
It's like letting a little kid play with fire: They may learn a lesson (twelve kids later,) but if they accidentally burn themselves severely and raze your home to the ground, guess who gets to pay for the hospital bills/house?
The rest of us, because you're too lazy to get a job.

...God I am so bitter.
I pretty sure that cutting off someone's arm and watching them bleed out is illegal even when sex isn't involved.

I never said man did not have an impact on the Earth, do not put words in my mouth. I said that anthropic global warming has not been proven (and is quickly falling out of favor lately) and that nuclear waste at this time is negligible.

This planet is not "doomed", the only thing "doomed" about it is when the Sun expands and completely engulfs it, although that's not really known, it is just a popular theory. Animals go extinct each day, with or without humans. The Day After Tomorrow was not a documentary. This discussion would have to be done somewhere else as I do not want to take away from this one.
I'm sorry, but that's too far, anthropic global warming you can argue for or against, but extinction rates since the dominance of humans over the planet is about 200 times that of 'backround' extinction levels. I believe the modern era has actually being classified as an extinction event, like those at the beginning and end of the Mesozoic. That's not say that extinction events aren't natural occurences, just that you cannot possibly deny that there is a human-created one going on right now.

However, I do agree with you on the whole about the Earth not being 'doomed'. The only thing we should be worried about preserving is our own civilization, as that's the only thing that the Earth will not sort out on its own given time (a million years, say, to revert even the most catastrophic climate change, which on a geological timescale isn't much).

Since I can't be bothered searching all the pages of this thread I'll simplify it, mankind's worst idea was having an idea in the first place. We were getting along pretty well living in caves and trees, then we decided to get down and start hitting each other with sticks, then stones, then stones on sticks, then honed stones on sticks, you see where I'm going.

I'd much rather not have any kind of intellectual debate on the topic considering the very fact of the debate proves my point.

Also, as an interesting aside on the whole 'religion is evil, only science makes sense' topic, science is more and more coming to the conclusion that humans are predisposed to creating or accepting religious beliefs.

In other words, religion is an adaptation, just like opposing thumbs or eyebrows, that has been created by evolution. Funny, that.

And yet the vast majority of technological advancements, later to be used for peaceful purposes, have come through war, including the internet...

Opposable thumbs.

The internet came about as a network for scientists to share data more effectively.

(The above points fail to hold if the civilization has FTL travel of some sort. Then it could be both too far away to find us AND be able to get to us quickly and inexpensively. It also means our understanding of physics is incorrect - though it still seems like they should be able to find earth easier than some half-dead probe.)
Wormholes get round that problem as its not technically FTL, The speed of light holds inside the wormhole its the distance that has changed. Of course if they have that technology the would most likely open a wormhole in the inner solar system (saves fuel whatever that is) and come across our earth before anything else.

What about religion? The deaths that have been caused by religion pale in comparison to communism. (I won't even get on the part that communism has been around for a tiny fraction of that of religion as well).

I can cite exact numbers if you wish of the deaths caused by Communist countries vs the biggest atrocities of religion. Let me know if you want to try this argument with me, you will lose, the numbers are there.
It think Mao tacked up about 60 million? I would like these numbers you speak of.

This is going to go massively off topic, but i agree and disagree with you;
Communism as social policy is never ever ever ever going to work and will always cause bloodshed whenever it is implemented.
Communism, or at least socialism as economic policy is inevitable.

Well look at roman Catholicism, especially in countries that were converted from possibly polytheistic religions! They don't just pray to God, they also pray to Mary, and all of those saints! What can Mary and the saints do for people according to the bible? Jack shit is what they can do (they're as dead as everybody else, although I'm pretty sure catholic dogma retconned Mary, now she ascended into heaven), but they're treated like a pantheon.

Just another example of how old habits die hard.
