It is hard to believe today is exactly 5 years since the terrible Yarnell Hill fire claimed the lives of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots.
It's one of those moments you remember where you were, what you were doing like the year 2000 or 9/11.
I remember just having a fine day, and I started with Green River Streets the next day, completely unaware of the sacrifice these 19 heroes had made.
Now I am a volunteer wildland firefighter with Sweetwater County Fire Deparment.
Where were you on 06-30-13?
In memory of:
Andrew Ashcraft 29, Robert Caldwell 23, Travis Carter 31, Dustin DeFord 24, Christopher MacKenzie 30, Eric Marsh 43, Grant McKee 21, Sean Misner 26, Scott Norris 28, Wade Parker 22, John Percin Jr 24, Anthony Rose 23, Jesse Steed 36, Joe Thurston 32, Travis Turbyfill 27, William Warneke 25, Clayton Whitted 28, Kevin Woyjeck 21, Garrett Zuppiger 27
"It is no longer the guilt of surviving I carry with me, but the honor of knowing my brothers as you know them, as heroes." - Brendan McDonough, Granite Mountain Hotshot and sole survivor of the Yarnell Hill fire.
Granite Mountain Hotshots last alarm 06-30-13. We will never forget.
