I am a huge co-op game player with my best pal and every time one of us enters into a game store we instantly scope out the bins for co-op games that might actually be good. We have been through piles of almost all available genres, and although we have found a few shining shards amongst the piles of poo none really stand out as the best co-op game ever. Maybe if we duct taped some of them together it would work.

The point I am getting too is that there are tons of games out there for each genre and every gamer is looking for that one shining, gold entrusted title in their personal genre that they will love for all eternity. It is impossible for one gamer to play/search every game for that one title so maybe we can conglomerate our total knowledge of games and pick out some of the best of the best from the beginning of gaming to current flashy generations.

Please post your favorite type of game and your favorite games for that type so others may find what their gaming hearts are looking for.

Left4Dead

L4D2 is ok, but you can still solo on it with reasonable effectiveness.
I found L4D easier to solo than L4D2. Mainly because the bot AI in L4D2 is a lot more retarded than in L4D. They really dropped the ball there.

Borderlands. Because it works well, is fun and you can muck around.

Try driving off a ledge when someone is in the gunner seat.

Borderlands is a lot better than I had expected it to be. FPS + RPG was a scary thing to think of. Aside from "Oh SHIT, he's not dead!!" coming to mind when a rocket plows into an enemy's skull for critical damage, it's still a lot of fun. I thought the damage system would be problematic when I was so used to lead-slinger + squishy body = red smears but if you're not an idiot about what you can take on, the formula stays about the same. Unlocking the vehicles was one of my more satisfying accomplishments as I rode around in the rocket turret while my friend traveled the areas and whatever we came across either blew up or became a permanent part of the buggy's chassis.

LFD was just too short to keep our attentions. Borderlands is a great mucking around game especially with all the hacked weapons floating around. Only problem with Borderlands is the menu when split screening.

Anyone play anything co-op that's not shooting and running?

Feel free to mention more than just co-op games.

Chiming in with the l4d series, although you might want to make 2 more friends. :p
I don't know anyone who stuck with Borderlands, but I still play l4d with various classmates.

ETA: Any love for RTS? I love playing DOW Dark Crusade with my friends, but it's kind of niche.

Dawn of War. It's the Warhammer 40k RTS. We all play Warhamemr 40k table top, or at least paint the figures, so it's a culture we understand.
Although I am super biased, I think the units are interesting enough to make a decent RTS for most fans of the genre.

Some of our favorites are Monster Hunter, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Gears of War, Army of 2, Super Smash Bros. Legend of Zelda Four swords, FF Crystal chronicles.

We have touched base on almost every type of co-op out there.

If you liked SC:CT, have you tried Conviction? When you start getting 8 person chain executions in Last Stand, it's a beautiful thing to watch.

Otherwise, I dunno. You got Monster Hunter already, that's personally my favorite co-op game, got over 200 hours in MHFU 2G, most time spent playing with a friend.

I like freedom, and making my own character and thus TES, particularly Morrowind is the top of my favorite games. Co-op also was important for me and my brother, and the game to claim that throne is the highly criticized (by bias at this point) is the Dynasty Warriors (and related) series. Co-op is a stable of those games, with the exception of Strikeforce (online only).
Two Worlds did alot for the first onbe too, but also like DW highly criticized and ignored despite the good it offered. But the soon to come out sequal has many sure it will be a big game, as the bad has seemed to been very addressed instead of ignored.
