...I don't have a big business degree or anything, but even I can tell that isn't very smart business strategy. Let's see what's coming out within weeks, maybe even days of eachother:
-Halo Reach
-CoD Black Ops
-Brink
-Fable 3
-Fallout New Vegas
-Dead Space 2
-Gears of War 3

Now I know they're all trying to get released before the Christmas season, but most people will only be getting one of these games... since they're like $65 each. And 90% of the people will either be getting Halo, CoD, or GoW. Games like Fallout and Brink won't really be affected since they're not Xbox exclusives, but games like Fable will never really be able to compete with those games.

So I'm asking, wtf?

Why would this be a bad idea?

Most of them are of very different genres. Sci-fi FPS, Modern FPS, Brink is some kind of new cool FPS I have no idea about, Fable is a third-person fantasy RPG, Fallout 3 is a First person Post-apocalyptic RPG, Dead Space is a semi-horror third person shooter, Gears of War 3 is a gritty and violent third person shooter.

Different games that will cater to different people. I doubt sales will be overly affected

Lets see.... out of that list Fable 3 is the only one I have any great desire to get immediately.

Halo: Reach I may get just because of how good the new Forge controls look.

Well, I don't think I'll be getting any seeing as I just spent the last of my money buying Microsoft Points in preparation for Scott Pilgrim coming to the XBLA, but that's beyond the point.

I don't see why pushing back a release date would be a better business strategy for something like Fable. If someone wants to buy Fable, they'll buy Fable when it comes out. If they'd rather buy something else, Fable will still be there once they've got the money for it.
But that's just my unintelligent, badly structured view on it. I wouldn't even pretend I have know how on anything business related.

Out of those I care about Black Ops and Fallout... they are the only two I'm considering getting at release day price.

Anything even a bit remotely interesting for me is Fallout. Can't care for the rest.

Take in mind: Those games aren't all from the same company. They're trying to gain sales at the expense of the competition. It's actually very good business sense, IF you're sure that your game is going to be selling a lot fresh out of the gate. That favors established IP's, and since all but one of these is a sequel, Brink is going to get totally screwed. Which is a shame, because Brink actually looked pretty interesting.

Oh well. Economics is a cruel mistress.

Brink, Dead Space 2 and Gears 3 aren't out until next year. And the other games each have their own fanbases to draw from.

Most of them are sequels. That makes me very sad.

We need some more OC in this house!

Well I think most of those titles are uninteresting at best, so I'm immune to this problem.
But as for others I can see how this would be a major thorn in the ass, and would require careful planning and execution to obtain all these games. Of course there is probably some people who have saved up for months to buy said games, and they have the right idea.

All '90%' of those people don't have a 360. What is that supposed to mean? I personally will be getting Gran Turismo 5, Little Big Planet and Medal of Honour.

Though I am perplexed at the notion that 90% of the gaming market would go for a shooter first?
