[HEADING=2]Thief still thinks bows are cool[/HEADING]

UPDATE: Thief is confirmed for PC and "next generation consoles" for a 2014 launch date.

Thief IV has been in development for a while now. The last time we heard anything about it was almost a year ago and even then it was pre-rendered, out of context scenes.

But now there's been a whole load of new screenshots that look a lot more polished and legitimate. Having just said that though this is still just a leak and should be taken with a handful of salt. However, this is from Square Enix and Eidos Montréal, the same team that brought us Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which was also a modern take on a classic series and had well executed stealth elements.

There is a very strong vibe of Dishonored in these screenshots but there was a lot of Thief in Dishonored. There also seems to have been an executive decision to drop the stylised "THI4F" and just go with, presumably, a standard reboot name of "Thief".

Personally, I think this is a very exciting direction for Thief to take. I've tried the original games but struggle with my 'modern sensibilities' to really get into the world and the mechanics, even though they are right up my street. I look forward to see if these are confirmed and we finally get some solid details again.

Sweet, I tried to get into the original first two Thief games last month but the age of the game and the amount of pain I had to go through to make it work on Win7 was a massive pain I couldn't bother. Maybe this will motivate me to go and give them another try

Spoiler 7 image isn't tagged correctly, needs fixing. Other than that, a pretty solid small article. Good work fella.

On the topic of Thief: Never really played any of these games. Got one on the shelf, just never got into it. Mayhap I should give it a go at some point.

Quite interested in this. I started playing Thief 2 ages ago and enjoyed it, don't know why I stopped, it just felt very dated in its combat, which wasn't a major blow as the whole point is stealth :p

Loved thief 2 even if I have yet to finish it, new hard drives kept making me start fresh for a while :(. I did beat deadly shadows and it was ok. So I am kind of expecting a thief deadly dishonored from the screen shots.

Now my thoughts while looking at the pictures.

I want this to be good but I feel this is a game it is best to sit on as I was not as happy with deus ex HR as I had hoped to be. I mean it looks too pretty to be big open levels.

YAY steal at a party!

Am I supposed to kill that guy? Does that mean the ghost run people will not be able to do no kill runs?

YAY it looks like lock picking is the same, maybe that means they kept true to the base formula!

Where are the Hammerites, Mechanists, or Pagans? I mean I see machinery?

Dear god let Garrett have a voice and make his comments. Dishonored was missing that character part of their main character. Thief would be missing something without that.

Ok will look into buying upon all reviews made by thief community and a chart to tell me which thief it is most like (hoping for metal age).

Obviously for the sake of screenshots they edited out the part where it says "GAME OVER"

I hope...
Thief was never about killing people....
It was about focusing on steath, because otherwise you'd be killed in a matter of seconds.
*sigh*...don't screw it up...whoever has it.

Oh, you could kill people alright. But you're a thief, not a murderer, so on the higher difficulties (the right difficulties) you instantly get a game over when you kill someone, even if accidentally.

Please don't screw it up, please don't screw it up, please don't screw it up...
I tried my best not to kill people...because I know I'd get myself bent over the knee of a guard and spanked with a sword.

I usually just black jacked everyone in the level. XD

New thif game - cool. Possibly a reboot - not so cool. Screenshots look nice, although some are more artwork than screenshots. Whatever. I just wanted to focus on this screenshot here - what the fuck is wrong with Garett? I know he has one eye but seriously what the fuck - see those hands? Try placing your hands more or less the same way to mimic the screenshot. Don't know about you, but mine ended up just about 3 centimetres from my face. Is he...blind? Severely visually impaired? Is that a fancy monocle he's trying to put on? I can't stop thinking about it - it just seems so awkward.

Well, let's hope the levels are larger in Thief 4... they were still good in Dishonored, but it never took long to go around them completely.

Anyway... *ahem* ... that is terrible technique for shooting a compound! And LOL, are those dampers?!

Still, there's going to be a lock-picking mini-game... looks as though it got ripped from Oblivion, however...

Well the screens look awesome, though I'm wary of any marketing stuff these days. I trust Eidos Montreal though so this might have to be something to upgrade my rig for.

The whole "sticking a number in the place of a letter" thing could only have worked for Thief III as "Thi3f." "Thi4f" would spell "Thiaf."

The sneaking in DE:HR was pretty sweet, so I feel like these guys could make a good stealth game. Especially if they don't have to worry about branching narratives, which felt like one of DE:HR's weaker points. Here's hoping they can actually focus on the task at hand and make a STEALTH GAME as opposed to an ASSASSIN GAME. That is, focusing on avoiding detection and escaping, instead of being able to easily kill everyone.

I'm also hoping for a good return of Thief series. I loved the first two games and would have probably loved the 3rd one also the thing would have actually worked properly. However I think there may be a few problems with this reboot if this article is anything to go by.

Basically, Hitman Absolution instinct like (read idiot proofing) ability and a lack of the magical elements like the undead and ghosts. I mean the instinct is fine if the game can be played without it but taking core story elements that where present in the previous 3 games and help define the series setting seems a strange decision.

Wait, so is this a reboot? I am confused.

Has Reboot Name(1)
Description makes it sound like a reboot(2) - Being in The City, Stealing everyone and everything, dealing with a baron

I hope it isn't a reboot -_-
I'm afraid it might be.

If it were a direct sequel, shouldn't we have an as yet unnamed female thief and not Garret (or some random new person?)

After all, the very end of Thief 3 was basically a repeat of how Garret's story started, word for word, except with a young girl trying to lift something from Garret instead of Garret trying to lift something from a male Keeper.
