That's pretty much it. It can be anything or anyone, even a limitation to what Humans can do and anything that makes our lives harder.

Imagine if [example] never existed, how will that benefit everyone in the world?

I personally choose the need for Humans to sleep. Imagine how many more hours we can be productive (or recreate) each day.

What do you think will benefit us if it doesn't exist? War? Crime? Disease? Yes, those are answers, but they're not interesting ones!

Hipsters

We don't need hipsters.

In fact, I'm so confident of this belief, world peace would be achieved if hipsters were to be eliminated from history.

I'm going to say, the internet.

I'ts the biggest hive of scum and villainy in the universe.
You build a time machine, going back in time to prevent the very thing that gave you the idea to erase the thing that gave you the idea.

OT: Homeopathy. It's just water, dammit. IT'S JUST WATER!! It's diluted so far you have a slim chance of having a single molecule of the original substance left.

And people who are rude to staff. My punishment for them would be a level of hell where they have to serve themself for all eternity.

Death. Obvious first answer, we humans disappear from this planet, simply ceasing to exist, after a pitiful hundred years if we're lucky. It's horrifying how many people tend to disagree with this, there's nothing good about it that even remotely compares with the obvious bad.

As for less important, less serious things... well, I'll second the need for sleep one, but I'll modify it to just "the need for non-REM sleep" - result is, people only need to sleep two hours a day, and that entire two hours is actual conscious dream-time, and because it'd be a continuous dream and you'd always be waking up from a dream rather than from unconscious sleep, you'd remember vastly more of many more dreams than currently.

Irrationality would be a good one, but that'd be really intricate and humans without irrationality wouldn't really seem like humans. They wouldn't resemble Spock, but not having any of the standard cognitive biases would make a pretty weird individual, I'd rather hand out with rationalists, i.e. people who know about the biases and try to correct for them. It's more... well, more human.

Oh! Oh! I've got it! The fourth wall! Get rid of that!

I had one thought when I first read this thread's title and you got to it before I did. Reality TV is a waste of time and resources. It is such utter crap that is diverting many networks from producing real, quality shows.

Calorie counters:

Obesity is still a thing. Obesity awareness is still happening. I feel like all the calorie counters do is guilt people into not eating what they want to eat in a passive-aggressive way of consumption control. I think it also gives obsessive compulsive people a new set of numbers to play with and ultimately freak out over. Can we please do away with these?

It should all go back to town hall style debates and structured interviews.

The Internet and cable TV

Force kids to go the heck outside and interact with each other! Not to mention helping the economy.
