for me speed running a game takes all the fun and enjoyment out of a videogame. It ruins pacing, subtlety, and over all relaxing nature out of a game.
what do you guys do to ruin a game for your self?

Did the Thieve's Guild quests out of order in Oblivion. Now I can't finish the quest line and get the cowl.

take for instance almost all stradgey games (RTS) youve played, how many times have you rushed?
i'd take it a few of the ppl out there are rushers and those ppl dont just ruin the gaming experience and enjoyment for themselves, also their competetor. Think about that the next time you rush.

And oh before i forget, take Fallout3 as a great example, there are like 200 ways for the game to end, also around the same number of quests/missions and do you do all those before completing the game? i doubt it, not me though, i started playing a week ago and ive already completed not half of the game, while i could've easily completed it the same day i got it. Seems some ppl are more interested in the end more than the beginning and middle.... hmm well think about that while playing Fallout3 :D

I have had so many games ruined by saying "hey haver any of you played (insert game name)" and then getting the responce "(game name) thats the one wher (final plot twist) happens isnt it"

*same applies for "im on the (insert name or no.) mission", "is that before or after..."

You can edit posts, FYI.

Cheating makes the game not fun after a while. Sometimes it can be funny to just mess around with, but playing a game with it all the time just makes it boring.

yeah sadly that has happened to me once or 5times but that didnt stop me from playing the games anyhow! :D its like i said, its not about the end, its about the beginning and the middle that counts as fun, the end is all just drama or whatever, the middle and beginning are the "fun" part of a game.

Reading a game's wikipedia page to find out about a game, ending up finding out about the entire plot. >.<

On the subject of oblivion, did the Theieves guild questline before Mages, consequently I was locked out of doing the mages guildline since I ended up having to kill the guy to get the arrow was it(Somehow he could see me through walls -.-).

Agreed on grinding.

Saving a game at the wrong point, I ruined 2 final fantasies for myself with an oppresive one save only policy. Whats that you say? must be a higher level to defeat boss? Cant go back to level? 40 hours wasted? LOUD EXPLETIVE... you know the rest.

Anything that involves hacking or cheating, EXCEPT the mother of a hacked games, Diablo 2. It wasn't really that fun to begin with, but started being fun when I got a sword of might that's tooltip was '+50 to haxxor skills' and a noob asked me which quest i got it from.

OUCH ye ive never played final fantasy but i agree, you need to save every time youre able to go back to say lvl get an item / items or such, so save at a place before you go to a mission for example, and that problem shud be history, hopefully :D

i still play them aswell but not knowing how it ends is part of the fun and [spolier] knowing that your cousin dies in GTA 4 makes shipping him to and from dinners all that more annoying
and it also ruins that tiny little hope that this is he game where the protaginist actualy has a sad ending where the bad guys do win and the world is destroyed, oposed to the usual world peace candy for everyone ending

personally, I think YOU ruin the fun for me, the skilled rusher, by turtling and getting stomped on, leaving no challenge at all and wasting 10 minutes of my life, whereas against a fellow rusher/person who knows what they are doing, I could have had a life or death struggle lasting half an hour which finally comes to a climactic conclusion in an epic charge/commander snipe. On the other hand, sometimes it is fun to just hold out against wave after wave of the highest tiers of units... But I play to win and the competition is the fun.

Accidentally reading the end of the plot in Terranigma before finishing it.

Man that hurt. Fantastic game, though; one of the best I've ever played.
