So, my friend made me watch this video, and I haven't able to sleep because of it. Normally I'm not freaked out by this kind of stuff, but this got to me:

Your reactions, thoughts?

Welp, that was conveniently timed; we were just talking about Nightmare Fuel...

I can see why you'd be freaked out about that but that's honestly nothing. My normal thoughts tend to be much worse than that so I'll be sleeping well tonight regardless (well, as well as I can with DSPS and being forced to get up at 6...)

I know it's nothing to have nightmares over, it's a silly video. But it got into my head enough to show up in my dreams.

Aww, I was expecting something horrifying. That wasn't even freaky.

Watched it at night, in the dark, with some creepy breathing in the next room...

Nope. Not thoroughly impressed. It was just weird.

If that caused you to have nightmares, consider reconsidering any stance you have on demonic possession play Peggle for three hours, or Viva Pinata. Or even Mirror's Edge.

I think I'd describe that as stupid or annoying more than "nightmarish". Especially if you realize the backstory behind that clip. I'd done some reading on it before, the first time I saw it, it did not feature music. I can't remember what the boy in the video goes by, but it's something like "the butterfly queen" or something like that. He has a fondness for wearing drag, and is friends with Marilyn Manson. The part of the clip I had originally found disturbing was that the boy seems almost mindless, and so his behavior was really quite frightening because it's suggestive of a possible mental state; but when you find the truth behind the backstory you realize he's a somewhat externally deformed human being, and the truth is that he's taking advantage of your prejudices in order to intentionally mess with your head. When you see behind the smoke and mirrors, it's not frightening at all.

It didn't bother me all that much. Uncanny valley creepiness combined with annoying music, both things I'm used to.

Not freaky... not disturbing... just annoying...

The walrus at the end made me laugh though, guess that was the aforementioned walrus.

my thoughts on this video:

"SHODAN! how are you?
"GAH! LSD TIME NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
"what the fuck...."
"GAH! Get AWAY from the camer- THERE IS CLOWN ON YOUR HEAD."
"WALRUS?"

this was WTFtastic.

It's pretty funny, although I was expecting a screamer to show up any moment.

Really funny how well superstition can work - no wonder why religions get so many followers. Bullshit sells, and if you make it scary or slightly creepy, it sells even better...

Make a spooky backstory, add some strange footage - either real or changed with modern special effects - and we've all seen that on youtube or elsewhere, it can be pretty effective especially on people who are superstitious ("spiritual" also counts). And having seen some real life "nightmare fuel", I can tell you that the fake stuff is always scarier then the real stuff. Real life dead people are nowhere as scary as fake edited ones.

Polio sure was a big problem back then, though.
