So, I'm 17 (just finished 11th grade), it's summer holiday, and all of the sudden, I get applied to a job in a company, whose owner is one of the richest snobs in the town. This friday, is supposedly my first day at work, or maybe just a job interview and training thingy...

I'm very excited, and am completely out of ideas, on how to show up there and make a good first impression.

So, any of you experienced escapists might wanna share some wisdom? I'd appreciate it very much.

A good interview is more like a conversation than an interrogation.

You're probably going to be asked some of the following questions.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why do you want to work here?
- What do you know about the company?
- Do you have any questions for me?

So be prepared to have an answer to all 5 of those. If you're stuck on #4, even some rudimentary Wikipedia browsing could help you out, depending on how well-known this company is. Also remember to thank your interviewer for taking the time to interview you. Shake their hand, too. Both before and after the interview. Oh yeah, and smile, keep your back straight, make eye contact often but don't stare... blah blah blah. Remember to shave/trim your facial hair, know what you're expected to wear (not every job interview requires a suit and tie).

Try to bullshit your interviewer as little as possible. Once when I was interviewed, I was asked how I'd rate my people skills on a scale of 1 to 10. I said 7. The interviewer then told me that my answer was a refreshing change from the guys before me who said 10.

Which job are you applying for? Unless its a bank, don't suit up. A normal shirt, nice jeans, haircut, thats enough. Shake his hand, keep eye contact, those kind of things.

Lie, exagerate your talents, never admit to doing anything wrong, and make it seem like you want to work there your entire life.

Honestly, i've found that interviews are mainly to see if you're a psycho or not before they sign you on. If you've got an interview and training scheduled for that day, you have the job. Just don't be a prick and you'll be fine.

First, you need to tell me how you landed an interview. I seriously don't know where to start with Summer job hunting.

Second, I imagine that appearing relaxed and confident is vital. It can't hurt, anyway. But if you walk in, put your feet up on his desk and light up a spliff, you might be being a bit too relaxed and confident. So, you know, balance it.

Research on the company or try to find info like the company origin just so you got a general idea on what it is about. Try to remind positive and relax, panicking won't do you any good. I would suggest look up most common question asked in a interview so you will have an anwsers ready fot that type of questions.
Lastly goodluck with it!

One tidbit of advice that I was given: at the end of the interview, actually ask for the job. It sounds silly, but I've been told it's something that interviewers look for. Oh, and for attire, I'd go with some khaki pants but not cargo pants and a polo shirt for almost any summer job. You might have to dress nicer, but keep that as your minimum for dressing up.

The only advice I can give you is to imagine the interview before you go in. According to my psychology textbook that's a good way to stop ourself being nervous.
And, btw, I don't mean imagine it jsut before you go in. A day before the interview, just play it out in your head.

Haha, no way; my first is this coming Friday as well!

Ring/email before hand to confirm that you've recieved the interview notification and the interview time (you'll come across as organised/efficient). Ask about interview dress code as well - worse case scenario and you don't know: better to raise eyebrows for appearing smart than for appearing too casual.

Bottom line is if you make it clear you're punctual, reliable and give a damn about the job then you'll come across fine.

This; to the point where you might want to practice by talking by yourself as if you were being addressed in the interview - this also helps when giving presentations.

Two words: Assless Chaps!

Be confident and yourself. Also, find a way to turn the interview around on them. Subtly, such as asking them about the better aspects of the job and the other employees morale, etc.

Alot of what's been said before is definitely vital however I found for the actual Interview wearing a formal suit does wonders :3

Thats one way to get their attention, also the other thing you could do is the Frank Zappa thing. Clean out your butt crack really really well the night before and before the interview put peanut butter in the crack of your butt and randomly start eating it during your interview.

All I did for my interview was put on some decent clothes, answer the questions as best as I could and try not to annoy the interviewer or pick apart their interviewing technique. That last one sounds like common sense but the last interview I went to, I accidentally let slip the fact that their interview process was a bit too like that TV show 'The Apprentice'. They laughed it off but I knew they hated me after that quip.

So, for any of you, who's interested, the place is some Factory complex, there's the lightfiber factory, where my parents are working atm, there's the abandoned biochemical factory, and there's the factory where I'm supposed to work. What do they do there? Fucked if I know, but as if it would really matter... As I am supposed to work outside, like a groundskeeper and/or something as un-important. But a job nevertheless, and for one of the most respected men in the town (a small town, ~10k ppl and decreasing, sadly).

I consider myself reeeaaaly lucky to even get a job preposition, even after a month of waiting. As in my country, there's ~20% unemployment altogether, and it's almost impossible to get a job for a teen about my age. Also, there were only 4 openings over there. I only got there, cuz my mom vaguely knows that man, and asked him kindly, when he somehow mentioned, that he's taking a few students for summer.
