So, quite some time ago I started RE4 on Pro difficulty, all through the start-up I was thinking of the thread title. LO, WAS IT SO! I died so many times even with Ashleys armor costume on so she couldn't be carried off. So how about you guys? Have any moments in games that made you think, "this is gonna suck?"

Final boss of Warkhammer 40k: Space Marine.

Barely got him on Easy/Normal, still haven't beat him on Hard.

Just...annoying as hell of a fight.

Ever played as the Uesugi in Shogun 2 on Hard difficulty or higher? Prepare to get your ass kicked by turn 5. The Takeda Rape Train has no brakes.

Nemeroth? Huh, I remember that being a pretty easy fight, and I was playing on hard IIRC. Might have to play through again.

OT: The mission to find Liara in ME1. Not so much at the start, but shortly after I realised that putting so much as a single hubcap in the lava would destroy the Mako instantly. Ever since then I've been slightly hesitant to do replays of ME1, simply because it would involve playing through that fucking slog of a mission.

Trying to go back through Medal of Honor: Allied Assault on Hard and reaching the Sniper Town. Sniper Town was already one of the hardest levels I've ever played, and even on Easy it was incredibly difficult, and not really in a good way. Hard mode is something only for masochists. Surprisingly, though, the Hard difficulty made a few other areas harder than it was, especially the manor house right before it.

There was also Tales of the Abyss when you have to fight Arietta, Legretta, and Largo all at the same time. Each of those bosses were a pain to face individually. I didn't even want to know what they would be like together. Sure enough, I hated the boss fight. It isn't even that challenging. It's just really annoying.

Finally, there was any time I had to do the Mako section in ME1. Once I saw that piece of a crap waiting to be used I instantly knew I was in for 10-15 minutes of an absolutely horrible vehicle section. Worse is that it would take even longer if the horrible controls led to my death and I had forgotten to save at a decent point because ME1's save system was terrible.

I was playing a England in Medieval 2 Total War and it was my first time on hard campaign difficulty. I had already made The Isles mine and crushed Scotland and I decided to wage war on France. I was destroying France and had them down to two cities and one fortress within twenty turns. They still had two hardened armies left so they were still a threat. Next turn I get declared war on by The Holy Roman Empire and Spain. Before I know it I'm being attacked by two major and one minor faction in three directions. Within twenty more turns I lost all I had taken in France and was pushed back to England. Somewhere during this bloody war the fucking Pope called a crusade for London. I was then attacked by France, Spain, The Holy Roman Empire, Denmark, The Papal States, and Milan in an attempt to take London. I ended up loosing the southern half of England, finally managing to hold the armies back at York.

Damn near punched my computer at how mad I was. Still the coolest thing to happen to me in a Total War game.

Doing Veteran runs on any Call of Duty game, but especially the ones where there's a timer. I hate timers.

Every time that objective shows up in AC IV.

"Tail the target"

Fuck those missions. Why aren't there more missions where I'm plundrin' booty from some random ass spanish merchant ships? You know, like a pirate? I mean, there are a few, but even then they had a ship based stealth mission in a swamp.

And if you really don't understand why it being possible to lose 10 minutes of progress in half a second is fucking annoying, you must have the patience of ten thousand tibetan monks.

Reversing Hollowing in Dark Souls.
Thanks to the fact that the online component has become a hive of scum and villainy, expecting some hacking/twinked up fucker to come in and one-shot you has become the rule rather than the exception. I say stick to co-op or play offline.
That or reaching the fog gate to Bed of Chaos. Seriously, fuck that boss.

Xcom enemy unknown.
When i ran two tiles from the spawn and trigerred two sectopods that were on the same tile. During the enemy turn 3 muton elites ran out of the Fog of war...

My most elite squad got wiped out and pretty much cost the game.

For a minute I was trying to remember any tail the target mission in Armored Core 4. Then i got what you were talking about.

Hehe.

Which leads me to the "This is Gonna Suck" moment in Armored Core For Answer. Occupation of Arteria Carpals.

I had read about that mission before doing it. And in that game the 2 on 1 NEXT fights were hard, so I was not excited about a 4 on 1, I say on 1 because Old King is useless, NEXT fight. I have no Idea how many time I attempted that mission I eventually won by using Reg 1.15 (Gives infinite energy) and Tank Treads that allowed any weapon as a back up weapon and went in with 4 Kojima Cannons 2 on the back 2 in my hands, and sniper rifles as my backup weapon. And then after all that i had about 1000 AP left, and the initial AP for that build was about 37000.

The moment in Baldur's Gate 1 when you walk in to fight Sarevok and all the nobles turn into doppelgangers. I started throwing fireballs into the room to clear it before I went in after that.

standard Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, or XCOM response here

And, those are all great games with an enormous number of "This is going to suck" moments.

But, for me, nothing is worse than making it through 30 levels of "Infinity Dungeon" in Tobal No. 1 and going up against Tori-Robo and hoping to god he isn't cherry buffed, since I wasn't.

I have yet to find a game that punishes me like that dungeon from Tobal No. 1.

Sectopods are worse in enemy within. They basically take half damage, and heat ammo got nerfed. Best be packing 3 heavies with Heat Ammo if you so much as suspect one might be on the mission. I didn't. Cost me 3 psychic troops, 2 of which were my medics.

So yes, this is definitely that moment for me in games now. FUCKING SECTOPODS.

Digital Devil Saga, the door where the Demi-fiend resides.
With every door that hides a boss, the game asks if you are sure you want to continue.
With the Demi-fiend, the game asks you twice.

The game never asked it twice before.

That's when you know "This is gonna suck".

The Bosses in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I heard that they were tough and to be fair I did struggle with the first boss, until I learned that if you use the Typhoon upgrade they go down in 2 or 3 hits. Then I went and did something really stupid When my chip started glitching out, I got it fixed. Then when I got to the boss fight, the woman went and switched off all my augments. I had to fight the awful boss without my beloved Typhoon, I was like "this is gonna suck." To be fair, it was my first playthrough, I learned from my mistake for my second.

That's XCOM, baby! Though my favorite "oh shit" moment was triggering not one, but two packs of Chryssalids (those creepy crawlies, always crawling creepily about, creeping me out and making my skin crawl, ugh) on the same turn in an early terror mission, when I was still ill-equipped to deal with six of them on the same turn >.> Incidentally, my only surviving sniper got In The Zone after that mission. Could have used that 20 minutes sooner.

Incidentally, I managed to glitch-cheese that boss completely by accident. Most intense moment was saving my flygirl, cause I wasn't going to leave anyone behind, and that ambush was rather obnoxious on a hard-pacifist run.
