Was watching a movie-trailer over on youtube, and a trailer for battlefield 3 came on. A trailer that featured graphic violence against fellow human beings, explosions and all around war. The soundtrack however, was what was "obviously" the danger to children's sensitive minds, not the violence, as the word ***** (Dog of a female persuasion) was sensored out of the text.

Which leads me to ask, what the hell is up with the american censorship board? If a game is featuring an abundance of violence and has an R or atleast 16+ rating, then I think it's safe to let the watchers hear the perfectly normal word of "*****". What do the rest of you think?

An example of double-standards. Violence is a-okay but swearing is not. It's rather sad that we are still restricted by 'offensive' language when violence is graciously shown. Perhaps it is a cultural thing. Maybe a historical thing which we haven't grown out of. It is certainly a dated mindset, if it ever was a mindset.

I love it.

It reminds me of games where half of the campaign is characters calling eachother "******" and "************", but when you go online the word "shit" is wordfiltered. Yay inconsistency!

Sex and profanity are bad. Extreme violence is good. It has been that way for a long time. Watch any movie. A violent film can easily be rated pg-13 but the second they show a tit on screen it gets rated R or higher.

I find stuff like this hilarious. I remember a game where "shit" was censored out when you typed it online, but your character would automatically say "shit, enemy sniper" every time he spotted an enemy with a sniper rifle, which your team could hear as well. Pure game making genius.

There's a lot that's ridiculous about the US. The fact that people here still believe in the inane concept of "bad words" is towards the bottom of the list.

Horrific, deplorable violence is okay as long as people don't say any naughty words.

The truth about censorship from none other than the South Park movie.

It is a wee bit odd that violence and war is a lot less dangerous towards children than some colourfull language. I can just imagine the editors going over the landing-scene in Saving Private Ryan, finding it a-okay, except for a "Fuck!" in the background at one point.

And as a European, I can also say that from our perspective, you have some reeaaally weird standards on sexual content. It's as if the censorship-board is partly staffed by Puritans or something.

Hmmm... In the UK you can have sex at 16... So that is full interaction with a nude member of the opposite sex, legally!

To buy/look at porn, however, the age limit is 18... So thats no interaction (well, maybe one sided, heh heh, fap, fap) with a flat image (or 3D cinema experience in some parts of asia, heres looking ato you Hong Kong) with an image of the opposite sex!

I suppose at least for those 2 years you have to work harder to get to get the carrot...

But yeah, crazy standards!

It didn't always used to be like this. Airplane is a good example, had a nice in your face uncensored flash scene and only got a PG rating.

I actually love that commercial. You don't even need to read between the lines since it outright tells you, "I've got 99 problems but a ***** ain't one". I know we can all put 1 and 1 together there so I won't say anything else on the subject.

As for censorship I never understood that either and I've been living in the US for nearly 24 years (well, my whole life). "*****" isn't even one of the big 4-letter words that they bleep out on TV. I don't see it being contextually sensitive either since ***** is always ***** (unlike dick and ass). I'm surprised that commercial is still running though to be honest.

"Remember what the MPAA says; Horrific, Deplorable violence is okay, as long as people don't say any naughty woids! That's what this war is all about! "

South Park Bigger Longer Uncut nailed it perfectly.

USA, in general, is a weird place... i mean what other country can shrug a debt that bi off, and still not feel any consequences, like a lower amount of loans, or not receiving any loans in the first place...

But on the bright side, you can buy soft-core pornography at any age, i.e. there's no restrictions on buying a 'newspaper' like the Sun or the Sport with their topless photos a plenty.

It think it balances out in the end, while it's right that you have to be an legal adult to purchase anything with vaginas (as that kind of pornography is very sexual), you can stare at tits as much as you like, as long as you've the desire and the bottle to buy one of those 'newspapers'.

Yeah, I agree with the South Park movie. They covered this really well. All the parents go of to war with Canada to protect their kids from profantiy which then becomes bloody very quickly. All this choas and blood just because of the fart jokes on the Terrance and Phillip Show.

Edit: Fucking Ninja'd!

i really dont get it. if you want to be really confused by it, watch Comedy Central. they will allow South Park to have special episodes where most, if not all curse words go un-bleeped, but they will also censor words like "retard" and "midget" on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Obviously they have no desire to kill the power fantasy that still exist with so many people, but hey if you're gonna shoot someone end steal them away from their family forever, leaving their loved ones heart broken and the children traumatized by the lack of a father then the least you could do is refrain from cursing out the guy.

Americans are polite about their massmurder! /obvious sarcasm on that last sentence

the censorship in america has started getting out of hand. it's inconsistent and biased, but i'm happy about it because the main o the population is startin to see it and will probably do away with it soon.
