Yeah...dunno if this has been posted yet, if so: my apologies, I have tried searching and couldn't find it anywhere. If no; I think this has to be seen/read.
Another sneak attack from Facebook *cue dramatic drums, music 'n' stuff*:

http://dangerousminds.net/comments/facebook_i_want_my_friends_back

Haven't noticed this happening myself, but then again...I don't have a big horde of fans following my every like, fart or thought.

I'll still keep on using FB for the handy stuff, but this is one of those things that just has to be thrown out there. :p

Discussion value: well, there isn't really one...read it and make of it what you like.

Adieu!

TL;DR: My feelings! They may be hurt by your lack of interest. D:

Facebook now has microtransactions that would make Zynga say "Steady on"? Haha, Zuckerberg must be really worried about revenue and profits. I can see this backfiring sooo bad, people won't pay, they'll just move on to the next big thing, somewhere they can send messages to all their fans who can view them and communicate back, all for free.
Twitter thy time has come.

Hmmm. I'll just sit back here with the elite group of non-facebook users and chuckle to ourselves, once again reminded why we don't use FB...

This is just pathetic on Facebooks part. Charging for posts to be read by all the fans? I guess Facebook is about as free as a "free to play" MMO...

Well this was unexpected.
And here I was wondering why on earth there would be facebook pre-paid cards at my local supermarket but low and behold it was another trick to grab as much as possible, oh zuckerburg you. You'd think with their stock prices dropping they'd do something positive to get more people using facebook or some actually "worth" spending their cash on instead of cheap ploys like this, freaking $200 per post? that's just ridiculous.
Still, maybe now people will start migrating to google+ unlikely but by the way things are going it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Well darn. I knew Facebook had limited the number of people who saw your posts with their stupid "Top stories" thing, supposedly so that you only saw posts from people they had decided you were close to based on how frequently you interacted with each other. I didn't know they had tied it in with the promote button to that extent.

Unfortunately, there are too many people hooked on Facebook, who will continue using it no matter how much crap Zuckerburg throws onto the site. And I know that there are people on FB who are so internet illiterate that they probably don't even know there is a thing called Google +.

It was only a matter of time before they started charging for actual use of Facebook. I'm just surprised they're charging this much on the get-go.

Also, this image is relevant...

I couldn't agree more. Seriously, Facebook and Twitter (MySpace would be in there too if it hadn't already died) are both stupid and evil. The only reason I would ever create an account on either is because I absolutely had to for a job or something.

I've told my mom and others who want me to get a facebook that "the only reason I would get a Facebook is if my job required me to, or I had actual interesting stuff going on in my life that people would actually want to know about. Spending an hour in the grocery store or making a homemade meal is NOT interesting".

That last part was actually a jab at FB users and their "Oh so exciting" posts :p

All I can say is fuck facebook...haven't used that shitty spyware in over a year and here I am, still alive and kicking, and still with the same group of friends that I've ever had. No one really needs facebook, that I can promise.

Sounds like a good reason for everyone to abandon Facebook en mass. ...not that that'll happen of course.

Protip: Facebook is not a not-for-profit organisation. They're in it to make money. Being pissed at them for taking away your free advertising is moronic.

Im sure you guys will have a lovely little circle jerk as you pat each other on the back for how hipster you are.
If you dont use Facebook, good for you but it doesn't make you better then someone who does.

As for the OT: That's a real dick move on Facebooks part and i wouldn't be surprised if it drives a lot of people over to twitter.

Although this doesn't make Facebook "evil" this just makes Facebook a business and like all other businesses its out to make money.

I've heard people saying none of this is true anyway, actually. But I've heard more people saying that it is, so I guess I'll trust you. :p If it's true it's pretty shitty on Facebook's part.

They can make plenty of money while still providing the service they are supposed to provide for free - so it's perfectly reasonable to be annoyed about this.

So is sympathizing with a corporation as if they were a single person in financial trouble. Just because the supreme court says so doesn't make it true. Their job in a capitalistic society is to remain competitive. It's not our job to make sure of that.

OT: Still no FB for me. I might make one of an alias soon though. I'm missing a few connections without one.

Doesn't make any difference to me. I'm using it to speak to my friends who aren't on steam etc.

Let's see... How do I put this...

My comment about "elite group of non Facebook users" was a comment made in light-hearted jest. I'm not nearly pretentious enough to classify myself in an "elite group" of anything, let alone something as silly as this. In all seriousness, I really couldn't care less whether someone uses Facebook or not. Facebook has its uses, none of which currently appeal to me. It's just one of the many things I like to lightly poke fun at. I by no means think I'm better than people who use Facebook.

It's not surprising that Facebook's bubble is bursting after all the security issues and other problems over the years. This seems like a rather desperate grab for cash, though it could also have been intended, I've oftentimes wonder why even with it's security problems that Facebook would provide such a service for free. I've expected a bait and switch like this for a while when it came to advertising, but I also expected them to start our gradual by trying to get people to pay a nickel or whatever. Introduce the service, get people hooked on it for free, then start gradually building up cash.

I also had another, far less likely thought. Last time I used Facebook was when TSW was launching and I played "The Secret War". I actually got nailed by Facebook for inviting too many people to my friends list when my faction (Illuminati) was organizing and friending each other on a large scale just for that game. A lot of people had similar problems. To me it seemed like Facebook was trying to cut down on large scale, casual traffic. Around that time I was also hearing a lot about attacks on people for having too much fluff on their accounts and so on.

I'm wondering if what Zuckerberg might actually want is to turn Facebook into "serious business" and cut down on a lot of the hijinx and casual usage. Basically he opened it to everyone, and to be honest it did change a lot from the first days, becoming one of the intellectual pits of the internet, though arguably probably not quite as dark as 4chan. Not to mention all the stupid people posting criminal activity there and then getting butthurt when it blew back on them. These kinds of financial crackdowns might drive away a lot of the trash, after which he can work on getting more serious users back by lowering prices for business or whatever.

It's not likely, but I suspect it because honestly for every legitimate business or person with a ton of friends out there is probably some spammer exploiting the system, or some troll worming his way into a huge number of friends with a bogus account so he can then expose himself to like 50,000 people at once for lulz. Even if it was developed as a social tool for college campuses, Facebook has gotten out of control, and become something of a cancer. On a campus you might expect there to be some guys who think they are in "Animal House", but on the internet you go from your run of the mill phranksters to literally the worst humanity can produce.

We should start an exclusive club or something like the free mason:p Never saw the use for the bloody things all my friends i keep track of thru texts and google chat dont need anything else. That being said facebook's now just being greedy and since their IPO flopped horribly-best NASDAQ mistake ever btw- i would think they would think twice before trying something stupid. They won't lose everyone, but they'l lose a good chunk of people

The second Facebook becomes too annoying to work with the masses will start to shift until bam, another Myspace or Friendzone or whathaveyou. I don't really care about social media so I will follow my friends around to remain in contact with them. Social media hasn't been fun for me in years.

So facebook's still around then huh?
I honestly never thought it would survive this long.

I guess it's sorta become the WOW of social networking. My hat's off to Mark Zuckerburg, or at least it would be if I was wearing a hat right now.
