Not sure if anybody else has noticed, but there has been another influx of new users posting misspelled, insubstantial, contentious and repeated threads.

At the risk of sounding like a grouchy old person, shouldn't the admins/mods impose some kind of rule for new users?Achieving a certain post-count [80 would provide ample experience, I think] before being granted the privilege to start threads?
Of course, there are exceptions, but I'm sure they would understand.

I'm aware that my threads aren't exactly full of flowering prose or concise points, but nevertheless, it's sad to see the standards of this nice community being lowered like this.

Opinions?

Ive noticed it, and i havent been here long. there seems to be at least five threads concerning whether you like Halo or not, every single day.

The banhammer should be a little more decisive on repeated subjects.

yah I've noticed it, but I wouldn't be too worried... trolls come and go on the forums, a bit like a "wave of stupidity" as some people put it :p just keep reporting them and it'll die down eventually.

They're doing no wrong, they're just not familiar with the forum rules yet and obviously have a few issues with spelling. We shouldn't punish or shun them but rather set a good example by kindly pointing out mistakes and the how to follow the rules.

I'd like it if was some kind of limit, but we'd have to risk people going around just posting drivel to get their post count up, thus being able to start threads.
I know reportings and the mods would keep them in check, but it seems like unnecessary work.

Repeated posts aren't that bad if the repeat thread was a few months ago. But having 150 religion threads in a week is shitty. Bad spelling, "Discuss" posts and "Favorite color of socks" should be Banhammered at "ones".

I guess the Escapist needs to have "Ban Hammer Mondays" like Kotaku does. It seems to keep the heathens in line.

This. You learn to ignore them after a while and whenever I encounter a new person I point them in the directions of the rules. We can only hope they learn and do the same.

Agreed. We were once new users. They didn't punish us each time we do somthing or say something stupid. Why should we punish them.

It's mostly the terrible spelling and grammar that pisses me off. If I want that sort of thing, I'll visit youtube.

WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT? I must know what everyone elses opinions are on Halo DAILY, lest I go insane from the lack of forum feedback.

Hmmm, I always thought the Moderators do a fine job as it is, perhaps just a limit on the number of similar threads per week, oh and please chaps, post count does not always tell you how mature or familar the person is with the forum, I barely ever make posts on the forums, but I'm still always reading through the threads because I love people's thoughts and the quirky and controversial topics that come up :D

I've noticed it to. It happens at least once a year. And every year I just grow a bit more bitter, and try to not let it bother me. But it always does... now you know the secret, the secret to why my post count is so low and yet my membership is so long. I can't stand you people! ARRGGH!

Pretty much. If we'd all learn to stop posting in their threads, telling them to use the search engine, that they need to learn to spell, how retarded their posts are they wouldn't have their threads bumped and fall to page 2 faster.

That way they'd learn not to make threads like that while we don't have to see the same threads on the first page all the time.

I sometimes really wonder if it's so hard not to post in a thread you don't want to see ever again. Especially those who are posting to say "Report and move on".
That's just stupid.

Me doing something stupid?
NEVER!

On a more serious note, I lurked for about a year before I became active here. That's the best thing you can do to avoid making stupid repeat threads. Lurking the boards to see if it's really the place for you to be.

Then you need to chill, seriously. If posts on a *online* forum get your blood boiling, I think you're just an angry person.

But isn't the point of threads to generate discussion? Unless your refering to posts that ask a question in the title and offer no personal input, in which case I agree wholeheartedly.

Most of those new people are just one person who started a bunch of trolling accounts.

I'm fairly new, and like other newbies such as myself, we try to act respectable to gain your oldies trust.

Maybe, in the distant future, I'll be like you guys are today, making all these inside jokes and such. That's what I hope, at least.
