Spoiler? Maybe?

Here is the Prologue to Alien Covenant with a little as to what happened after Prometheus that should maybe bridge the gap.

You can speculate how the gap is bridged between the two movies but here is a crazy Para theory. What if the Engineers uses the AI David to continue on with their plan to unleash the Xenomorphs on Earth?

No, that sounds stupid. Sorry folks. Anyway whats your thoughts on the prologue?

I didn't mind Prometheus but... what's the point of these movies? We already know all there is to know about the alien. You get to experience all the awe and wonder and fear in the first movie, and every other movie builds on that mythology. What's the point of a prequel? Why do we care about the alien's origins? When have we ever cared about the origins of something that is established with a cool mystique, like Bobba Fett?

I agree. An implied back story is just a bit of flavour to help flesh a character out. They aren't designed to be expanded into exciting, grand stories in their own right, otherwise the writers would have started with that story first. For example, Obi Wan mentions he fought in the clone wars with Luke Skywalker's dad. It was just an inconsequential detail used to explain how this old man knew Skywalker senior, but it ended up leading to a three movie prequel series that inevitably spoil the big twists built into the original trilogy.

Alien doesn't need a prequel to explain the Space Jockeys, they were just a damn plot device.

We need more engineers, not (the) aliens. We've seen all the aliens before. Give us engineers, damnit! Need more sci-fi exploration of new lands and creatures. I would not trust that android with my cryo-sleep at all though.

Im no Alien fan. And hell, I like expanding fictional universes and all that but...

I feel like the original's plot was just "There is probably weird scary shit in space we dont know about!". The Alien being to space travelers what Krakens were to sailors once.

Alien doesnt scare me...but if space travel ever becomes normal, I'd probably find Alien to be one of the scariest movies ever.

I liked it. Yeah it's unnecessary, but that scene was pretty cool. I hope one day Hollywood will make a Superhero vs Alien vs Godzilla vs Fast and Furious vs Star Wars vs Harry Potter vs Lord of the Rings mash up, so I can watch it all in a single movie. What are the chances of that happening?

Resounding "meh" from me. Ancient astronaut stuff should have been left behind decades ago. The Engineers were a step in a boring and cliched direction.

Let me try,

Prometheus isn't an aliens movie but it's set in the aliens universe. It was meant to be the start to a series of movies that would one day complete the story of how the aliens came to be but folk hated the movie asked why their was no aliens in it apart from that one at the end and the sequel instead of continuing this theme just went straight back to well here's some fucking aliens then.

Yeah I think that holds up pretty well.
