I was just replaying it over the Virtual console and it struck me. I owned an NES, but I never actually beat Super Mario Bros, at least not on a console. I beat it when it was ported on the Game Boy Color, but it had the ability to save your progress.
Saving game progress is for girls, and the entire medium is just holding our hands now. In my day, you died you went back to start... don't like it, then stop sucking you pansy!

We all know about these classic games the kind we all talk about and say we've played and mastered to earn us some cred with the hardcore gaming crowd... but are we all lying.

So, this is a safe place you can share without fear of judgement: What classic games have you not beaten?

In addition to Mario I'll admit that I never beat the original Zelda, Metroid or Crash Bandicoot.

There are a lot of "classic" games that I haven't beaten or even played. I started gaming on the Nintendo 64, so I was introduced to Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. as 3D games, and being young and naive as I was, didn't know about older games on the SNES and NES. As a result, I just can't get into most "classic" 2D games from the SNES era and earlier. I love Metroid Prime, but when I tried playing Super Metroid, I didn't enjoy it the same. I get the same feeling with Zelda and Mario games, so I haven't beaten many of the earlier games in the series.

Never beat the first Zelda game, nor the first Metal Gear Solid. Also most of the Mega Man games I'll get to Willy or w/e the end boss is and run out of lives.

I never beat Crash Bandicoot... shameful I admit, but I was young and by the time I was old enough to care, I'd beaten the second and third...

Same with me, so did you also think that the first one was much harder than the other 2? Or did I just suck at it, that's also a possibility, I too was young and had not yet come into my full gaming greatness.

Saving game progress is for girls,
I'm usually not the one to get mad about these things, but I take pride as a female who enjoys games...and I don't know about any other women here...but I don't like the fact that he's basically saying, if you want to be a real hardcore gamer, who doesn't save, you either have to be a man...or be a woman who acts like a man.

I thought we were over this "games are for boy" crap?

EDIT: OH! sorry, forgot to address the real issue. FF7....yeah you can save but still it's a classic and I never finished it. I got so close...but I hadn't leveled up enough for one boss battle and got stuck in an area where I couldn't kill some monsters to level up. *sigh* I always intend to start over....but I never have.

Sorry, it was a joke, I was making fun of that type of mentality.

Someone is taking things a little too seriously it seems.

Well I appreciate the apology and I certainly wasn't trying to get mad, but it was a little annoying. Sorry I didn't get the joke.

Great topic ^_^

Love shmups, never done a one credit completion of one.

Not even Ikaruga, which is one of the easier ones.
