So, yesterday was my first day at University and with 4 hrs of breaks I had a lot of time to think about shit going on around me.
- What idiot thought Summer in Australia was a good time to start learning? It's too hot to think.
- $3 for a fucking bottle of water?! Why don't you wear a fucking mask while you're at it?
- Look, I'm sure it's nice to have a non-smoking campus and all but how about doing something about the kamikaze fucking cyclists flying around with disregard to public safety?
- Why isn't there a law for exposed midrifts allowing anyone to walk up and stick a finger in their bellybutton until they dry-retch?
- More Africans here than I expected. About as many East Asians and South Asians as I expected, though. Good, because if I ended up surrounded by noone but middle class white teenagers I'd probably open up a vein.
- Who's the fucking idiot who forgot sunscreen? I am.
- Gah... this free refill water tastes like bore water.
- Oh for the love of... FUCKING PROTO-MULLETS... yeah yeah call them 'mohawks' but that "just shave the sides out" cut? that's what led to mullets in the 80s. YOU HAVE A PROTO-MULLET!
- Why does this university hate my bad knee? I curse all your steps and could you make your wheelchair ramps any more embarassing and inconvenient to use?
- 800+ students for Psych 1A? Why?
- They're prescription sunglasses and I can't be fucked digging out my regular glasses. Deal with it.
- Holy shit the gender ratio in this course rocks... if only a few more of them weren't 20 years younger than me.
- I need to find a better place to have a smoke.
- GAAAAAHH... I don't want to 'get involved in the social side of University'. I did that last time I was at Uni which is why I'm back here doing undergrad studies again.
- Oh joy, not only do I have to endure public transport but my first lecture is started with a song. A John Lennon song. I couldn't be enjoying myself more if the lecturer stabbed me in the eye with a pen.
So, people, do you remember any strong impressions from your first day at a tertiary education institute? For them that have just started tertiary education, how've you found it? For those yet to reach the promised land of academia, what do you hope for?
