Not quite.TheLaughingMagician said:Wait, did they continue on from season 13's ending or not? Please tell me they did... Please.
Then you gonna have to wait next year then.TheLaughingMagician said:But... but my emotions. They can't leave me hanging like that.
Basically they developed TOO MUCH on the organization of Free-Lancers, a bunch of Spartan wannabes.Bob_McMillan said:We are talking about the Halo thing, right?
I used to watch a couple of clips some time ago, and recently when I tried watching the new ones, I had no fucking clue what was going on.

To the point that it practically lost sight of what the show originnaly was about.
Well again its either go to the direction the show ended up being in (Action/Comedy/Drama) or risk having your humour alone premise go stale.Hawki said:Oh God this, so much this.Samtemdo8 said:Basically they developed TOO MUCH on the organization of Free-Lancers, a bunch of Spartan wannabes.Bob_McMillan said:We are talking about the Halo thing, right?

Season 10, episode 10. That's the exact moment when I called it quits on the series.
So...make it a new show?Samtemdo8 said:Well again its either go to the direction the show ended up being in (Action/Comedy/Drama) or risk having your humour alone premise go stale.Hawki said:Oh God this, so much this.Samtemdo8 said:Basically they developed TOO MUCH on the organization of Free-Lancers, a bunch of Spartan wannabes.Bob_McMillan said:We are talking about the Halo thing, right?

But I think they also made the mistake of having "wink-winks" to the main Halo canon.
Well anything by the late great Monty Oum is cool.Hawki said:So...make it a new show?Samtemdo8 said:Well again its either go to the direction the show ended up being in (Action/Comedy/Drama) or risk having your humour alone premise go stale.Hawki said:Oh God this, so much this.Samtemdo8 said:Basically they developed TOO MUCH on the organization of Free-Lancers, a bunch of Spartan wannabes.Bob_McMillan said:We are talking about the Halo thing, right?

I'm serious - season 5 felt like a good ending to the series. Season 7 and 8 were the beginning of bad habits that would come up later, but I could still live with the series ending there, because IMO, season 6 is easily the strongest. Then, if they had to change, why not just make a new series and title it "Freelancer?" I don't think seasons 9 and 10 were good regardless of the name tapped onto them, but it might have helped. As in, among other things, in season 1, Tex is captured by Red Team of all people. By season 9, we have Matrix-esque stunts, and even by season 8, we had Tex beat up Red Team for no reason other than "isn't this kewl?"
Is it? I mean, I hate to speak ill of the dead, but as far as Rooster Teeth has gone, he animated and directed the worst seasons of Red vs. Blue I've seen (the 7-10 range, especially 9 and 10), and created RWBY. I know RWBY is insanely popular, but for me, it does nothing. It doesn't help that it has the worst excesses of later RvB seasons, of characters doing insane stunts in insane fights that don't have any stakes whatsoever because of how invincible they are. I know he did work outside RT, but I can't say I've liked any of his work, however small a sample that might be.Samtemdo8 said:Well anything by the late great Monty Oum is cool.
Anyway what alinated me a bit was retconning the whole "Ghost" aspect and made Church and Tex AIs.
So how does this explain that they were flesh and blood people in the beginning of the fuckin show?
Allow me to take you back to the olden days of 2006-7:Hawki said:Is it? And yes, the ghost thing bugged me too. It makes Church's and Tex's biological bodies questionable, it makes the spirit world section in season 1 make no sense, and it takes away a quirky trait of early seasons and makes it "all serious." Which did give us season 6 admittedly, but even then, it was setting the stage for what was to come.
You mean that? That's also lacklustre. What's your point?Samtemdo8 said:Allow me to take you back to the olden days of 2006-7:Hawki said:Is it? Wait you wanted a Halo/Metroid crossover with a proper narrative, theme, characterization, and story?Hawki said:You mean that? That's also lacklustre. Okay, I get that your point is that it's good, but I never liked it at the time, and I don't like it now. Yes, it's well animated. However, it's basically The Matrix in a Halo skin, to the extent that it uses tracks from The Matrix itself. It's bereft of any plot or theme bar "a Spartan fights Covenant and Samus, isn't that kewl?" At the end of the day, it's nothing more than an excuse for an over the top fight scene bereft of any narrative, theme, characterization, or any other traditional element of story.
And it's also a clear precursor to the nonsense that would infect Red vs. Blue given the time stamp.

I have the same standards more or less.Hawki said:https://www.fanfiction.net/Metroid-and-Halo-Crossovers/542/1342/?&srt=1&r=10Samtemdo8 said:Wait you wanted a Halo/Metroid crossover with a proper narrative, theme, characterization, and story?
I'm not exactly lacking in choice.
But to answer your question, no, I didn't really "want" anything. I find that Metroid/Halo crossovers usually devolve into either a) Samus vs. John, who would win? b) Samus and John hook up, or c) both. Watching that though, it's basically in the category of "C," only with a gender flip for good measure.
I think that since the short rips off the Matrix shows why it doesn't work for me. In Reloaded, Smith vs. Neo was perhaps over-long, but it still worked, because we were invested in the characters by that point. We know who Neo is, we know who Smith is, we know why they're adversaries, so by the time they DO fight, there's at least emotional investment. This, however, gives no reason. Samus and the Spartan fight for reasons that are unexplained, make up for reasons that are unexplained, taking place in a setting that is barely explained (unless you're a Halo fan that is). And as someone who is a fan of Halo, I've got to say, I don't recall any Spartan-II doing those kinds of feats, let alone John while the Covenant were in New Mombassa.
So, as to what I "want," I wouldn't mind the short excelling at least in one of the five elements of story. At best, it only functions in the storytelling aspect, and even that boils down to the fight choreography.
