Just wanted to ask around, what are all the different opinions on the Minecraft beta?

I dont think theres too much stuff to be honest... but, Notch has promised more!

He is supposedly releasing a new content patch in the next month or two. I think it is the one where he was telling everyone he was going to have to break saves.

It needs more content ofc.. And make minerals more frequent to find so you dont have to mine for hours just to get a couple of iron bars...

Other than that its a fantastic game with lots of potential...
Im just a little concerned about that "secret new game" Notch mentioned on his blog... Could take their focus away from Minecraft... Wich would be a shame...

But Notch is a cool dude, so i expect the best...

The game is perfectly fine as it is, I have no need for more updates.

Yeah, I agree. However, any good developer won't have you break saves for a minor update.

Not sure i agree with that my last play session in a new world i found 5 stacks of iron ore within a hour.

I do use a program that shows cave locations tough. Not rearrlyy cheating dont use inventory editor

Had a lot of fun doing a LAN game of the beta with some friends the past few days, and for me at leas, co-op is always the best part about multiplayer, and minecraft has done that well enough for me so far.

I dont use any extra programs whatsoever... But you were propably lucky i guess.. I always have a hard time finding enough iron to make all the fun stuff...

Well beta isn't any different than alpha, there's just a certain point that Notch said he wanted to get to before he changed the label and upped the price.

I think he'll be adding new stuff until we all run out of ideas and the updates become really obscure and mostly aesthetical, like decorations and stuff. Somewhere along the line he'll start working on other projects along-side minecraft and hopefully we'll get some other awesome games :3

Whoever said it was a minor update?

OT: So far, the beta is just alpha with a new name, but Minecraft is Minecraft and if Notch delivers on his promises of epic new content, then he might just rekindle my love of it.

I think it needs new features to be honest. I get bored after awhile, specifically after I build the base, mine to the bottom of the world and get some materials. I feel like there should be a storymode option. Nothing too invasive, but having a goal would help. Maybe some type of transportation? Also, I think he should add more types of minerals and make the map taller. It only goes like 128 blocks high. If it's a mining game, there should be more mining.

That's my point. Unless you don't think Notch is a good developer. If he does break saves for a minor update, he is retarded. But he is claiming he is going to break saves. I would bet that he will be bringing in a lot of changes to the core of the game all at once. Possibly those villages? I know he is going to be adding in water mobs which I think is great.

It's not meant to be a major content patch. It's just meant to be the patch that makes the game playable enough to be safely called a Beta.

I'm waiting for the finished product before I go all out on a Minecraft binge. No massively wrecked saves for me!

I think the new tags in the inventory are great for beginners, I am looking forward to see what happens with the story mode.
